He practically carry's me in and sets me down on the chair in the kitchen.
"What happened?" He asks quickly getting out a washcloth and running water on it.
"My dad." Is all I say.
He hands me the cloth and says "The one on the back of your knee is the worst. Put that on there." He pauses "I'm gonna go get some bandages."
I look around. Where are his parents? I hear him talking to a little girl upstairs. His sister.
When he comes down with a big wrap of bandages his sister comes too.
"Lyla. Go get the blankets and pillows from dads bed and put them on the sofa downstairs." He says to the girl.
He tells me to put the cloth on my hand now. Then he says that my back is mostly just scratched up bad as he puts on some cream stuff and bandages around my knee.
I let out a little yelp of pain as he puts it on.
"I know. I know." He says as he tightens the back.
He takes the cloth off my hand, puts the same cream on, and then wraps it up.
A tear slips from my eye. Not because of the pain. The situation.
He looks at me and then gives me a hug. Not squeezing my back, because he doesn't wanna hurt me.
When we release I ask "Where are your parents?"
He says "My mom... um.... passed. And my dad is a truck driver, gone almost all the time."
"Oh Stanley..."
"No, don't feel bad for me right now. Worry about yourself. Please."
Time skip
After he helped me down the stairs he got me one of his t-shirts and a pair of his sweat pants, my clothes are obviously torn up.
He insisted that I get to sleep in the bed and he sleeps on the sofa, which he brought into the same room as me. It's like the basement is his own home. He has a whole living room and a bedroom.
As I sit on his bed and he sits on the sofa he says "If you need anything. Anything at all. At any time. Wake me up."
I smile "Thanks."
"No problem." He asks "Do you want the lights on or off."
"Off." I say.
He turns the lamp off.
As we both lay down in the dark I say "With my dad. I controlled my powers."
"Really?" He asks sounding excited for me.
"Ya. I wouldn't have been able to do it without you though."
"I didn't do anything." He says "It was all you."
"Don't be so modest."
He laughs a little.
As we continue laying in the dark for a while I look around at everything. Obviously I can't see details very well since the lights off.
"Stanley?" I ask
"Ya." He reply's.
"Do you think you could come up here?"
"Sure." He reply's.
He climbs off of the couch, walks over, and lays down beside me.
I look over at him and curl into his arms. He wraps them around me carefully.
As I shut my eyes for the first time in a long time, I feel safe.
Time skip
The next morning Stanley is no longer next to me. I can smell bacon from upstairs.
I climb out of bed, being careful of my knee, and struggle a bit up the stairs.
When I limp into the kitchen I see Stanley cooking.
I knew it was bacon.
"Boo." I laugh coming over to the table and sitting next to Lyla.
"How are you feeling?" Stanley asks.
"Meh." Is the only answer I have.
He brings over some bacon and a plate.
"You should go to a doctor about your knee." He says sitting down.
"My knees fine." I reply.
He gives me an unconvinced look then says "ok then stand up."
I stand up using my arm strength on the table.
"And walk over to the living room and back."
I limp over to the living room almost falling over I yelp.
Stanley comes over and helps me back.
"Are we done yet?" I ask.
"Your seeing a doctor." He reply's "Today."
I roll my eyes and take a bite of my bacon, but deep down I know he's right.
Time skip
Stanley drove me to the doctor and I had to get stitches in the back of my knee.
Ugh.
They also gave me crutches so it wouldn't hurt when I walk.
I guess it was a good thing that I went.
On the way back I could see my dad, outside of our house, drinking more then usual.
We snuck inside quickly and now we're taking off our shoes.
I untie my converse and look out the window to my father.
I almost immediately look away. I don't want to even see him.
I grab my crutches and head over to the couch where Lyla has already begun to watch tv.
Sitting down she asks me "What happened to your knee? When you came here yesterday?"
"I got in a little... um... accident." I say.
"Oh." She reply's looking over to the tv.
"Your very lucky to have such an incredible brother." I tell her as I look at him over in the kitchen.
Lyla smiles "Are you and my brother, like, dating."
"No." I say "We're just friends."
She looks at me confused.
Come on, we don't even look like a couple. Do we?
After Stanley comes out of the kitchen he sits down beside me.
"What are you guys talking about?" He asks casually.
"Nothing." I reply
As we sit there watching whatever it is that's on tv I glance over out of the window and something quickly moves away from it. So quickly it's incredible.
I get the same feeling that somebody's watching me that I felt that one day entering my house.
I look over at Stanley who didn't see anything then back to the empty window.
I swear there's something out there, and I know it's not my father. I also know it's not here for a good reason
