On a heavier note, my heart goes out to those who were involved in the explosion in Lagos.

Kano, Nigeria
2020."Assalamu alaikum" Adam's voice came from the other end of the phone.
A smile spread across Rumaysa's face, the reflection of her happy face giving some light to her darkened room.
"God, Adam you didn't tell me you were Hajia Maimuna's nephew now" She said laughing, overcome by joy at the fact that it was Adam.
One might think she was stupid for being as happy as she was, when she was just—some hours ago—totally opposed to the idea of marriage.
The fact that it was Adam who'd been brought as her suitor definitely changed things, but not in the usual way.
Adam was a very close friend of hers, his parents were long time friends of hers, but since they relocated to Nassarawa a few years back, she hadn't seen them again.
But she still kept in touch with Adam, until months ago when she lost her contacts.
She didn't get it from her mom even though she knew she had it because it felt weird asking her mum for it lest she began to think there was something more between them.
Alas, the exact situation she had been cautious about had happened, and she couldn't be happier about the turn of events.
She'd been extremely shocked to see him at her house earlier that day, due to lack of knowledge—prior to some hours ago—that Adam shared familial connection to Hajia Maimuna.
Rumaysa was so joyous partly due to the fact that she missed Adam, but mostly due to the fact that the possibility of being matched with him was almost next to nothing.
Ever since she could remember, Adam was utterly besotted with a girl since she'd known him and whenever she asked him if he was seeing someone, he would always tell her that it wasn't possible, that his heart wasn't his.
It made Rumaysa jealous. Every single time Adam mentioned his girl with so much reverence, she couldn't help but wonder if Zahar ever thought of her, if he'd moved on with someone else, if he even spared her any thought.
It always made her weak in the knees, short of breath because she continued to love him no matter how much she tried to convince herself that it was a pointless venture.
She continued to pine for him, tortured by her dreams— both at night and day— of him, the way he possessively dominated her heart, the way his gaze would fall on her face.
The gaze that burned her skin in an intense fire that never seemed to hurt her, the intense battle that ensued in his being whenever she neared him, that craze in him that she loved to tease.
It belonged to her. He was hers, like she was his.
Or at least he had been.
There was tightness in her chest whenever the thought that all her gazes, her smiles, her Zahar belonged to someone else.
She couldn't bring herself to believe that Zahar would ever love anyone the way he did her.
That he would ever look at anyone else with the tenderness that was reserved only for her.
