Chapter 6: Sailing Hearts

Rose

Thanks Tyler, but I am stealing my story back. We don't need you giving anything else away know, do we.

I felt something soft on my lips that forced me to open my eyes. I'm not sure if it was the fact I was being kissed or if it was the sparks that it sent through out my body. When my eyes opened I saw Mat there with his eyes closed, kissing me. I kissed back deepening the kiss.

"Morning to you too." I said once we pulled apart. "I herd your father called."Mat said adjusting himself so he was behind me and I was laying on his chess. "Yeah, but I don't want to talk to him or talk about him right at this moment." I said. "Yeah I understand that..." "Mat! Why is your hand in a cast!" I yelled just noticing the cast on his hand.

I could feel him chuckle as I yelled at him. "I punched my car." He finally said sheepishly. "Why?" I asked like I was talking to a five year old. "Because he is stuiped." Tyler said while walking into my room. "Well we knew that." I said snuggleing back to Mat's chess.

"Tyler why are you in here?" Mat asked irritated. "Why are you in my sisters bed?" Tyler countered back. "Shut up! Ty go make popcorn and we can play CoD." I ordered. I love both of them to death, but they will bicker for hours. I still have no idea how they are best friends.

Once Tyler left I finally spoke up. "Mat, why did you come up here?" "To check on my best friend is not enough of an answer?" He asked. Best freind. Those two words will always curse me. At those words my heart sank falling into the acid pit of a stomach. I've heard those words before, with plenty of my friends, but hurts worse this time, like I can't survive without him.

"Yeah... I guess that's an answer." I said trying to show it didn't effect me. "But Tyler was fine, so I came in here to ask you something." Confusion struck my body. What was he talking about? He is the only guy I know that will play football and then talk in rituals. "How does Tyler have anything to do with this?" "Well I came to check on my best freind." He said like it was nothing.

I could feel the acid begin to rip at my heart. Tarring it apart till there was nothing left of it. At least when I was thought of as a best freind I would still be part of their life, but no. I wasn't even that.

"So, what do you need to ask me? If it's for help with math you are on your own." I said trying to lighten my mood. He let out a peaceful laugh. That always fills my heart with joy. "No, I know not to ask you for math help. Do you remember all sophomore year? Where you would go to the cafe in the morning and yell at your text book." I laughed at that. "Yeah, it always ended with me closing the book and asking why I needed math to begin with."

"Or the weekend Tyler, Mark, Ben, and I stayed up all night to explain geometry to you. Right before finals." "Yeah, none of us got sleep and we all ended flunking at least one final." I said remembering the past. "Yeah, I was grounded for half the summer." "You were? You still came here everyday." "Yeah, I was grounded, but what they don't know don't hurt them." Maybe Mat didn't think of me as anything more then a freind or his best freind sister, but I didn't care as long as I

could still talk to him.

"Rosy, can I ask you the real question know?" Mat asked. "Ready?! For some games?!" Tyler yelled while bouncing back into my room. "Tyler!!" Mat and I warn at the same time. "Ok, ok, I get the hit when I'm not wanted." Ty said with his hands up in the air and backing out of the bedroom.

"What do you want to ask?" I said look up at Mat. His messy black hair and peaceful blue eyes. They are the color of the ocean and can hypnotize you with just one look. They are like a lighthouse bringing me to him safely. Sailing my heart right to his, the problem though his heart didn't sail to mine.

"Will you go to homecoming with me?"
