Chapter 22: More Secretes

The spiraling ball coming right towards me. I slid on the ground  saving the ball. "You know the game hasn't started yet." Gary said as he walked onto the field. "She just practicing what she does best. Laying on the ground." One of the other players said. "No, she just had an amazing catch." Thomas said from behind them. "Thomas just because she's a girl doesn't mean you have to be nice, she's the other team." Gary hissed. "You’re right, I don't have to be nice because she's a girl, but I can be respectful to an amazing player."I pushed myself off the ground and threw the ball back to Mat. "Rosy!!!" I heard someone yell and I heard a heavy breath. Before I had time to think or even had time to react. A little girl ran up and jumped onto my back and another ran to my leg. "Hi Jenny, hi Caitlyn, why are you here?" I asked while picking Caitlyn up.

"Daddy wanted to come see your game, and Benny was giving us a tour." Caitlyn said. "And we ran away from him." Jenny said giggling into my hair. "Benny is here." Matt said teasingly as Ben neared us on the field. "Mattie" Jenny screamed jumbling off my back and jumping into Mats arms. "Hey, Mattie." Ben teased "Benjamin I swear to god if..." "Mathew, children." I scolded. "Yeah, Mathew Children." Ben teased back. "Benjamin I'm mad at you." I said glaring at him. "How can you be mad at you Fairy god best friend?" Ben asked batting his eyes. "What? You guys are weird." Gary scoffed. "Why did you leave right after the trial? I wanted to hang out." "I know, but Lilly text me and she wanted to hang out." "Whipped." Mat coughed into his hand. "Did you just call me, whipped?" "I know, I am but I embrace it." Mat said while walking over to me still carrying Jenny."Girls, Ben needs to get ready for the game!" Dales said getting on the field. "Rose!" He yelled when I saw him. Putting down Caitlyn I ran to him. "Dale! It's over." I yelled hugging him. "I know. Now you can live your life." "Daddy!" Caitlyn yelled running into his arms.

Turning around I saw a shaking Gary. He was white as a ghost and shaking. Balls of sweat was pouring from his forehead and he looked as if he was trying to swallow a lump in his throat. All and all he looked completely uncomfortable. "Hello sir, haven't seen you in a while." He finally choked out, looking at Dale. Dale narrowed his eyes and you could see his anger inflate. He held Caitlyn close to himself and stepped in front of me. With one nod Mat was at my side. "Why are you here?" Dale hissed out. "It's my game." Gary said still showing his discomfort. "You better not screw anything up." Dale hissed venom dripping from his anger laced voice. "Sir, what are you talk about? Is that her?" Gary asked nodding towards me. "Come with me." Dale demanded dragging him off the field.

That was weird. "Mat, what was that about?" “I don’t know, but we are about to find out.” “Ben, take the girls. We need to go do something.” I said handing Caitlyn and Jenny off and following behind Dale. Like ninjas, Mat and I where following behind them undetected. Dale pulled Gary into one of the dark halls. “Yes, that is her.” “Seriously, why are you mad then?” “You, can’t screw this up. She’s happy and is now going to get away from him. If she finds out who you are, she is going to find other things out about him.” “You mean you. You are afraid she will find more things about why you where really there that night.” Gary said venom dripping from his voice. “No, I don’t want her getting hurt.” “So you are going to hid the only family she has left from her.” Family? What family? My father is in prison and my Mother is dead. The only other family I have is James and he’s kids.

“If that’s what it takes, to protect her then yes.” Dale says pulling me out of my confusion. Matt pulled me away from the coroner to hid in a janitor closet, while they passed.  “What about me? I want to meet my sister and get to know my family? She’s all I have too.” Gary yelled stopping right in front of the door. “Sister?” I whispered to Mat. They can’t be talking about me after all. “Well you have been in foster care your whole life and you wouldn’t have known she existed without me.” “I don’t care. I want to talk to her and get to know her. I need to make up for all those years.” “Gary, you are being selfish. You want a family enough to destroy her life.” I had enough of it. Standing up I was about to open the door. “What are you doing?” Mat asked.

I didn’t answer and just opened the door. “Someone tell me what’s going on!” I demanded stepping out of the closet. Matt stepped out behind me. “How much did you hear?” Dale asked turning red. “Enough to know he’s my Brother.” “I didn’t want to hurt you.” He defended himself. “So, you kept family away from me? I don’t care about me I have a family. James and his kids, but Gary? He didn’t and I was here the whole time and you didn’t tell me! James would have took him in! I could have gotten to know my brother!! Not, met him at a Football game!!” The anger boiled over as well as the tears. Mat step behind me hold me close to him. “We can get to know each other know, well after the game.” Gary said in a soothing voice.

“I know, but all those years in forester care. That most have been awful, I could have been there for you.” I cried into Matt’s chess. “Come here.” He said and hugged me so know I was crying into his chess. “Don’t worry about me or the past. I survived and know we have the future.” Pulling away, “Thank you.” “No problem. Lets play the game and after we could meet somewhere to talk about all of this.” “Ok, well Matt and I were going to go back to my house, because neither of us want to go to the party anyways. So you can come with us.” “Ok.”

The three of us walked to the locker rooms. “I better get ready. I’ll talk to you later.” Gary said walking away. “What are you thinking?” I asked looking at a concerned Matt. “Are you ok? This is a lot to take in and I want to make sure your ok.” “To be honest I’m numb. I don’t know what to think. The world doesn’t fell as if it is caving in but it doesn’t feel stable either.” “Do you want to talk to Coach?” “No, I need to get ready, we need to be on the field in ten minutes.” “Ok well go get ready, love you.” He said kissing my forehead. “I Love you, too.”

“The Senior captains this year for the Rams are Tyler York!” The announcer blared. Tyler ran out onto the field and the crowd went wild. “Mat Reed!” he gave me a kiss before running onto the field. “And Rose Fox!” I ran out on to the field. Our fans went wild with yelling and excitement, the other fans just stared at me, but even they couldn’t kill my excitement high. “Mathew we made it to Championship!” I yelled over the defining crowd. “Baby, I know!” “Ewe, it’s bad enough you guys are like this in my home not the field too.” Tyler groaned. “The Senior Captains for the Eagles are Thomas Woods, Gary Fox and Drake Hunt!” The Announcer yells as they ran onto the field. None of us have helmets on, so it was easy to see how much he actually looked like our father.

He had his reddish brown hair, like I did and his feature looked like his. The difference was his eyes; they were blue and they didn’t look like the evil ones our father has. “Are you ok?” Mat  whispered as I starred at Gary. “He just looks so much like him.” I said as small tears escaped my eyes. “Hey, don’t cry.” Mat said whipping the small tear. “Yeah, I want a far game, not one where one of the best player can’t see.” Gary joked once he made his way to us. That made me crack a smile. Thomas and the other Caption gave him a weird look, but he just winked at me. Causing Tyler to give me a confused look. “Fox, Fox, you call it.” The Referee said. Gary and I stepped up facing each other. “Lady’s first.” “You heard him, Gary.” I joked giving him an innocent smile. “Just call it.”He said rolling his eyes. “Heads!” “Heads it is.” The Referee confirmed.  “Good luck.” Gary whispered as we shook hands. With that it was our ball and we were ready to win our Championship.
