30. Apologies

There was an eery silence.

Everything seemed to be going in slow motion.

No one uttered a word.

The only sound that was going on was the, Yumi's sobbing ones ,whom Baekhyun has been comforting for God knows how much longer.

IU is currently being operated for hours now.

Chanyeol looks like a dead body, just breathing.

All their friends were sent back , since not many ppl are allowed .

IU's mom and brother are currently on their way back from the states, who have just reached there and had to come back .

As if on cue,

"Ji Eun... Where....where is my daughter?" a panicking voice breaks the silence.

The three ppl outside the operating room turn their heads immediately , on hearing a familiar name.

IU's mom and brother come into view , in their disheveled statures .

Upon seeing her mom, Yumi's eyes shot red, blood started boiling ,as she clenched her fists .

Mrs. Lee comes towards them crying non stop.

"What... happened ?" she asks upon recognizing familiar face of Yumi.

Before anyone could answer , the operating room opens and the doctors walk out.

They all rush to him asking what was the result and how is her condition , holding their breaths.

"The surgery went pretty well but we need help from her regular doctor, who treated her from the start" he says confusing everyone.

"What are you saying doctor? " her brother asks frowning.

"Yes the one , who treated her, from the beginning of her cancer stage " he replies.

And everything went as eerily silent as it was.

Unable to process anything, her mom flops down on the floor and her brother supporting her.

"She...she has cancer? "Yumi stutters trying not to break down.

"Yeah she's in second stage, but that could've been treated if she'd have gotten proper treatment "

He continues "Also maybe she's been through too much mental pressure or stress which just worsened her condition"

Then everything made sense to them.

"That's why she always had countless headaches and fevers" Yumi mutters under her breath, remembering all the times IU had been rolling on her bed complaining about headaches.

"That's why she had passed out countless times " Chanyeol mutters still trying to process everything.

"Yeah those are the symptoms of this condition " the doctor informed.

"How's she? " Yumi asks expecting some relief.

But alas.

"She hasn't woken up yet , albeit the surgery being successful. So for now we'll shift her to the ICU and maybe talking to her regular doctor and doing some tests will work. But the most important thing is...." he trails off sighing

"she needs to wake up. If she doesn't we are afraid she may go into coma " he completes which shatters their world.

A tear escapes from Chanyeol's eye after so long, fighting to himself trying to be strong and positive that
