I can only hope I twisted this trope far enough that is isn't too cliche.
Also, someone told me I forgot about Mysterio when I wrote this just now but Idk who that is.
I am so sorry for all the exposition, but it's important to know.
Peter already knew the field trip was coming up. At the beginning of the semester, permission slips were handed out, and a reminder was emailed at the beginning of the month. He had already alerted his teachers that he was not able to come to school that day.
But even at the beginning of the week of the trip, which was that Thursday, Peter couldn't help but feel his stomach tie in knots. He felt car sick when he was sitting, and honestly a little dizzy when he stood. The fact that patrols were getting longer didn't help, especially because Peter only arrived at home by 11:00 pm or later some nights with a pile of homework to complete.
But the few days leading up to the field trip, Peter's nerves seemed to relax. May always told him to replace his nerves with excitement. And now, Peter was looking forward to when his class would be visiting the tower. Because while he may not be joining them on the field trip, he was going to see them.
Just, they wouldn't know it's him. They would "get to know" Spider-Man. The queen's hero had been meeting many kids recently, visiting many schools in his area to promote kindness and everything a hero stands for. Anti-bullying, Hard work, and respect. Captain America would be jealous to know just how well Peter's been interacting with these students. He'd gone to preschools, elementary schools, middle schools, and now, his first high school. Ms. Potts had decided to invite the high schools to take field trips of her company's tower, which she bought back as she assumed her role as the face of Stark industries to inspire students to apply for internships after graduation. At the tower, the newly restored Avengers lived in small apartment dorms on the higher floors with only the Starks above, and company business was conducted below. Peter's dorm, though he would never admit it, was surprisingly messy, considering he only stayed for weekends at a time.
Peter couldn't express how proud he was of everyone for getting their lives back together so neatly after his mentor's death.
So when Thursday rolled around the corner, with a dozen missed phone calls from Ned, Peter pulled on his suit and webbed towards the Tower.
His first tour from Midtown was Mr. Koerner's history class. He knew a few of the kids, but most of them were a year younger than him. A few of the kids seemed to be in a trance, watching him as he mixed his web formula in a demonstration. (Leaving out a few important steps, of course, he couldn't be giving his secrets away!) Peter had only a little trouble pretending he wasn't the same age as them. He made the mistake of calling a different high school's class "kiddos." They had laughed at his high-pitched voice. He was still waiting on a voice changer to arrive in the mail, and while he could have built one, Mr. Stark always disapproved of his dumpster-diving.
Peter broke for lunch after the tour, and walked back into his small presentation lab, noticing that all the chairs were gone. He walked into the room next to him and started grabbing chairs to bring over. As he walked into his room balancing seven chairs, the next tour walked in. Peter recognized Ned's bright grin immediately. The tour guide motioned for everyone to take a seat, but they were still short of a bunch of chairs. MJ made a face at him, and Peter rushed to take out more chairs. The tour guide nodded at Peter.
Peter inhaled deeply, summoning his full Queens accent and deepening his voice slightly.
"Hey, Midtown!" He spoke. Okay, too strong. Tone it down, Pete.
