Meanwhile, Bridgette is in a whirlwind in her relationship with her boyfriend. He thinks that she is cheating on him and believes she’s been a bad parent to Emily. Clara has taken some of the responsibility away from Bridgette and John so their relationship can evolve. Bridgette is still beat everyday for something she didn’t even do. No matter how bad he is to her she would never cheat on him. She is always encumbered with the guilt of never telling Clara the truth about her father also. She’s become somewhat of a third parent to Emily. She’s even taken some time off from school (begrudgingly spending time away from her precious boyfriend). One day, Clara saw her mother and asked, what has became a daily question, “Who is my dad and why did he live.” She then, annoyed at her constant begging, tells her this “Your dad died after you were born. He got into a car crash on his way to the hospital. All he ever wanted was a baby girl. He was so excited to see you he ran a red light and crashed into a truck. He died instantly. I’ve never told you because it’s such a hard thing to tell people but I thought you deserved to know. I love you and I’m sure your father would too.”
Clara is heartbroken upon this realization. She thought all this time that her father ran away but all this time he was looking down on her. This gave her a new hope. She decided that from then on she would live her life to make her dad proud. That night she didn’t cut herself for the first time in over five years. She just relaxed and watched, her favorite show, Mad Men.
For the first time in her life Clara felt complete. She has never felt as close to anyone than she did with Dylan. Her relationship with her mom is stronger than ever and she’s passing all her classes. Every day she gets up and makes breakfast for both her mom, herself, and Emily. They talk throughout the car ride and Destiny seems to get along with Dylan. Billy no longer makes fun of her because he is afraid of Dylan. Everything is going right in the world of Clara Pitts.
