She awakes the next morning early. She is with her mom who is in the hospital giving birth to Emily (Clara's stepsister). She had trouble sleeping because of various nightmares. Before the birth, Clara gets some alone time with her mom. There is more sympathy there. Her mom has a black eye from the beating the day before. Clara tries to start a conversation with her mother but she is unsuccessful. She beats around the bush until she finally asks her mother "Why are you with him"? She doesn't answer. She is obviously befuddled by the question. She simply tells her to get ready for school. She doesn't want Clara in the room anymore. Bridgette's boyfriend, John, picks her up and brings her to school. There wasn't a word spoken in the car ride.

She arrives at school and again meets her friend Destiny. Upon seeing her she instantly tells Destiny everything. As she reveals this she starts to get emotional and, of course, Billy arrives. " You finally look in the mirror butt face" he says to the emotional girl. She is now uncontrollably weeping until a courteous boy breaks them up. He says his name is Dylan. He gets Billy to go away and asks Clara "whats wrong." She brushes him off and hurries to class, not wanting Dylan to see her blushing.

As she gets home Bridgette and John are fighting again. Bridgette believes John doesn't spend enough time with the baby. This time, holding back all aggression, she just looks away and go upstairs. She rushes to her bed and plugs in her headphones to listen to the mellow sounds of Coldplay and writes in her journal. "Another terrible day. Billy is still being Billy and Dad still hasn't come back. 1,950 days I've cut myself. And that dumb baby won't stop crying. John is barely here but at least he has a dad. I don't know if I can go 50 more. But at least I met a cool guy. His name is Dylan. He's so nice. He probably doesn't like me though." 8:00 comes around. The thought of Dylan makes her rethink cutting herself but eventually she gives in. One beacon of light can't brighten the vast darkness of her life.
