chapter six

shania was at a loss for words. she was alive. natalie, her natalie was alive. she never wanted to lose her again, thats why she agreed to natalie's proposal.

"would you be comfortable with that gus?" shania asked.

"i think we should take our time? we just found out someone we thought was dead is actually
alive! i care about you shania. i really do. i just think it's a bit much," he went to grab her hand from across the table. he held it in his own and looked in her eyes. she loved his eyes, they were a deep brown and right now they were hurt.

"i know, i know. i just cant lose her again. i cant, i couldnt deal with it last time. now that she's here it's better to look past what she did."
it was becoming clear she was fighting tears.

"hey, im here now. if im not given a reason to, i will not ever leave again." she grabbed her free hand and gave it a light squeeze.

"but we don't know that" gus spoke up.

"when we get to cali, i'll prove to you everyday that i really mean it." she said rubbing her thumb against shania's hand.

"start now. pay for our meal." he huffed, crossing both of his arms.

"fine, i will." she huffs, pulling out her wallet from her purse. she slams the money on the table and grabs shanias hand aggressively. she pulls her out of the booth and rushes outside.

"hey! slowdown!" gus hurried after them as they approached natalies vehicle. he was out of breath by the time he reached natalie's car.

"see you there shit face!" natalie said honking her horn and speeding away with shania.

well gus would just have to get used to this.

"fuck!" he ran his fingers throughout his hair violently. he couldn't do anything but stand in shock. he had met natalie for two hours. two hours and already she had taken shania. how did this even happen? how was it so easy? did he mean nothing? of course not! he was there for her with everything. he was patient, he was caring. he always said the right thing, he always knew how to make her feel better. it seemed none of that mattered now.

if gus did not accept natalie back in, shania would shut him out. he never knew her enough. he remembered seeing her, mesmerized because she was always the center of attention. she always had those doped up losers hanging on to every word she spoke. it was a sight to see. thats all he knew, thats all he saw.

he shook his head, he needed to hurry. he jumped back into his car (alone), and sighed. he missed shania's annoying whining already. he knew natalie wouldn't miss her whining though. most people dont miss things like that.

he had made some good progress, he was just outside of nevada. he decided to stop in a walmart parking lot and text shania to see how far along she was.

he had 10 new messages.

he sighed. at least he had two girlfriends. he needed to hurry the fuck up.
