gus had arrived at the motel at around five o'clock. it was still beautifully sunny outside and it adorned the pink building quite nicely. he checked his phone for the specific room number they had gotten. he slid the phone back into his pocket, and sighed as he made his way up the stairs. he was anxious to see what he would walk into.

he stood in front of the door and took a deep breath. he knocked impatiently as he waited for one of the girls to open the door.

he was greeted by shania's smiling face as she peered through the door.

"come in. we've been waiting for you." she said as she opened the door wider so he could step in.

"why are there two beds?" he asked. he analyzed the pair of full sized beds on either side of the room. the sheets were a shade burgundy and they were littered with an incessant amount of pillows. natalie was sitting crisscrossed on the bed towards the left.

"let me explain, i thought having two beds would be a good idea. if one of us wants to sleep alone, there's always that option. just in case there isn't enough room in one bed, someone can just sleep on the extra one." she said as she played with a pen engraved with the motel's logo. the clicking was beginning to drive him insane.

"can you stop clicking that please? we both know who would end up having to sleep on the extra bed anyways. it's not gonna be you or shania. it's gonna be me." he was upset. of course he loved the idea of possibly growing to love two people. however, this was beyond what he expected for his new life in california. he envisioned it much differently.

"gus?" shania looked up at him. she knew he was upset, it was obvious he was upset. he wasn't trying to hide it either. "yes shania" his voice sounded cold. "come here" she patted the empty space next to her on the bed.

"just because natalie is here, it does not mean i dont love you. you matter so much to me, you've helped me through so much. you always make me smile and i believe you understand me in a way that many people dont." she went to hold his hand in hers.

"please.. i can't watch this sappy bullshit. if he had a functioning brain he would realize how much you love him. if it were up to me, it'd be shania and natalie take LA. if she didn't love you so much i wouldn't even bother." she leaned her body on her palms towards them across the other bed.

"well, what is this going to be? when we started this, it was going to be just me and you. it was always going to be just me and you. actually, nevermind it never is. it never is just me and you, as long as she is even a thought it's always going to be about her. you will never put me first. never." he shook his head and took his hand from shania's grasp.

"can't i love you both?" she asked.

"we can grow to love each other. please calm that sentimental bullshit. being overly sensitive is shania's job." natalie said looking down at her nails.
