I had gotten only maybe three broken hours of sleep in the past few days. Jail was not as good for me as I thought it would be. I was being held in a holding cell in the same police station that I had fought with Kyla at about a week ago now. Oh how things have changed since then.

Back then I wasn't being considered in a homicide case. I had no idea how I got myself into so much shit. Just last week, I was in a steady realtionship and the only laws I broke were underaged drinking laws. Now I'm a suspect in a homicide case and an assault case.

Honest to god, I don't remember anything from that night. The night in question, I was blackout drunk and from the point we all got home to the point where I woke up with Miriam my mind was blank. I could not remember for my life, and literally my freedom.

There was such a high chance that I did it that I felt like I couldn't rule out any possibility. So thats what I've been doing for the past day and a half. Going over in my head the possible event of that night but I had barely made a dent in my poor memory.

Even if miracously, I didn't do it I still would be jailed for the assault charges. There was no doubt that there were enough witnesses that I would be convicted no matter what. And to top it all off I wouldn't have a fighting chance at freedom becuase I have no connections. I'd have to be represented by a public official and I know that the state will pin it on me. I mean I'm the black man who had motive. No way out of this one Tajon.

I was fucked. Utterly and completely fucked. That was until Charlotte showed up.

I was shocked to say the least when a burly looking police officer came over, unlocked my cell door and announced my bail had been paid. Shit, I didn't even know I had a bail. You would think that with homicide cases they wouldn't post bail.

Anyways, I stood up from the harsh cement block that was supposed to be my bed and entered the cell block corridor, hands cuffed behind my back. I waited for the officer to lock the cell and then he grabbed my arm roughly and led me down the hall.

When I entered the main drag of the police station I didn't know who to expect to see. I didn't even think anyone other than Peter and Lauren knew I was in here but all of the sudden I saw a face I would never forget.

Charlotte stood, leaning against the front desk, effervescent with her ponytail and miniskirt. How did she even know I was in here? Who had told her? And how did she get the money to bail me out? These were all questions for later, I reminded myself as the gruff police officer roughly uncuffed me and pushed me into the lobby where Charlotte stood smiling.

I rolled my wrists in pain and smiled back at her, going to meet her side as she started walking out of the lobby.

"What's up dude?" She asked uncharistically nonchalant.

"Oh, y'know, nothing, just adjusting from jail time," I responded trying to match her vibe.

"Well that's good, glad you're doing good." Her voice shook and I started to sense her facade of calmness fading.

"Hey...are you okay?" I asked in a hushed tone as she unlocked the door to her prius.

"We can't talk here, I'll explain when we drive away," she whispered through clenched teeth, and dipped down into the car. I suddenly noticed the cameras all around us. In the car, she quickly turned the key and as soon as the car was on we were out of there. When we had drived far enough away from the station Charlotte's face dropped and she looked at me.

"Did you do it?" She asked, looking away from me, face unflinching and toward the road. I had no idea what to say. Had I done it? Hell, even I didn't know. I assume that's not the answer she wanted though.

"I-I think so-"

"Bullshit! You either killed him or you didn't. Now did you do it?" Her tone scared me, I had never seen Charlotte this serious. Her eyes looked slightly watery and it pained me to see her under so much stress.

"Ok..." These were the few words that could change my future, "I did it," I said even though I wasn't sure I was telling the truth.

"Well shit," A tear left her right eye and she quickly wiped it on her sleeve. I felt bad making her so upset but if I had really done it then this was just the beginning of her dissapointment. "Ok, we need to go see Danielle-"

"Why? She always hated me y'know" I tried to respond in my usual cocky attitude but her eyes darted from the road to me with fire behind them.

"What the fuck Tajon! This is not the time for petty arguments and stupid shit. You are in big trouble. Danielle has connections to some pretty powerful people. We need to see her because she's the only one in our loser ass friend group that can help us. So could you please fucking quit it with your fake tough shit. Cause I'm sick of it right now."

The air in the car loomed heavy. I felt tears welling up in my eyes but I couldn't do anything about it so I just let them fall. I swallowed the lump in my throat and fidgited with the side of my seat. I could say nothing. She was right, I wasn't taking this as seriously as I needed to.

"Look," she whispered, cutting the tension with soft words. "I just really care about you, okay? And I really don't want anything to happen to you, or I don't know what I'll do."

"Okay, I care about you too, and I don't want to dissapoint you anymore than I already have-"

"I'm not dissapointed, Tajon. I love you, I think the world of you. This is just another blip we have to take care of together. But we have to do this together or this won't just be a little blip."

"I love you, too" I said, not ever being more sure of the words coming out of my mouth. I took her hand that was resting on the center console and she looked over at me and smiled.
