| CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN |
BLACK LAKE.
HAZEL COULDN'T FIND GEORGE ANYWHERE.
It was like the ginger haired boy disappeared off the face of the earth. All she wanted to do was find him, but she was forced by Lee, Fred and even Harry into a small boat which took the four Gryffindors across the Black Lake to the stands.
The brunette stood at the edge of the platform, alongside the rest of the Champions. She had taken off her muggle clothing - jeans, t-shirt, sweater and converse - and was left in a burgundy and gold tank top with matching shorts. A similar outfit to one that Harry had on. The black haired boy stood right next to her, he glanced at Hazel briefly, sending her a small thankful smile; she had charmed some goggles for him the night before; so that they would repel water.
She sent him a small smile back, before the worry of not being able to spot George anywhere came back to her as she gripped her wand tightly.
"All our champions are ready for the second task, which will start on my whistle. They have precisely one hour to recover what has been taken from them," Bagman said, his wand pressed up to his voice-box acting like a microphone, "On the count of three, then. One...two...three!"
The whistle echoed through the chilly air as the stands erupted in cheering and applause. Hazel was the first champion to hit the water, she used her wand to do the Bubble-Head Charm, before placing it into the special holder she had strapped around her thigh. Now that she could breathe and see under the water without any issues, the brunette began swimming.
The water in the Black Lake was murky and it was hard to make out what everything was. Several times, the brunette had found herself getting freaked out about what she thought was a creature, which in the end turned out to be seaweed. Small fish flickered past her head like silver darts as weeds and sea plants tangled themselves around her feet, making her kick out her legs harder than she would've liked.
The lake was strangely quiet. It was almost eerily how quiet it was. There was no sign of any of the other champions, or the merpeople Hazel had read about the night prior, it just all seemed dead. But, she couldn't deny she was quite thankful for that. The last thing she wanted was to fight off any strange creatures she had never encountered before. However, she wasn't lucky enough to not counter anything underwater. Because, as soon as she thought she was out in the clear, she suddenly felt something poking the bottom of her foot.
Glancing downwards, her eyes locked on a Grindylow; a small, pale green water demon. He was poking out of the weeds, and Hazel couldn't stop thinking that if it didn't have those razor sharp teeth, the creature might actually be considered quite cute. But, when the Grindylow tried to reach out and grab hold of the brunette's foot, she squirmed away, kicking at the water beneath her to swim upwards.
