That night I sat up watching the entrance to the cave. Claire slept next to Dahlia, her jacket missing to help with Dahlia's fever. I had to figure out what to do. It was obvious that the only way to help Dahlia was to go into the lion's den- in this case back to the Cornucopia- but I knew that if I went and got caught they wouldn't let me go.

Sighing, I take out my water bottle and take a sip. I was going to need to get more water too, and seeing as though I most likely won't be able to make it back up to that waterfall I'd have to get it from the stream and clean it.

There was still no sign of Freyer and if he happened to be with Dahlia before this incident, he was now nowhere to be seen. Running my hand over my face, my bury myself into a craggy corner and continue to watch the cave entrance. There haven't been any sounds except for the nightly deaths in the sky. The Careers definitely knew now that their third member was never coming back. I had killed Peter and now they were going to be on the lookout for me. They may not know that I did it but he died because they had all spread out to search for me, now they had an even bigger vengeance than before.

The only thing that bothered me more than not being able to find Freyer was that my own district partner cared nothing for me. He followed Rouge's every whim and he would most likely savor the moment he got to kill me. However that's something I could never promise him. If I die it will never be by either of their hands, but my own.

Looking over at Dahlia, I press my fingers to her forehead and feel her temperature. She has finally cooled off but it would only be a matter of time before her fever would strike up again. She needed medicine for her wound and if I can't get it soon I can only fear the worst.

Just as I was about to close my eyes the sound of cannon shook the walls of the cave. Quickly getting up, Claire joined me as we stepped out of the safety of the cave. The boom of the cannon was close by, signaling that someone was near and ready to kill. "Get back inside, okay? I'm going to be watching from here," I inform Claire. She looked at me nervously, obviously not wanting to leave me on my own.

"If you don't go in there then Dahlia will be by herself. I need you to keep her and yourself safe, okay?" I tell her, guiding her back to the mouth of the cave.

Sending me one last glance she went back inside the cave. Trying my best to conceal the entrance with underbrush and limbs, I take ahold of my knife from my belt and look around me. Since it was so dark it would be hard to know when someone would come after me. But I definitely couldn't risk staying inside and someone showing up out of nowhere. All three of us would be dead before I could get my hands on a weapon.
