A bright light was all I saw. All I could remember was one single word, just one. The kind of word anyone would take as a warning. I just knew, like it had been apart of my brain forever. Run.As my eyesight started to adjust I could make out lines of objects. One being a rectangle I pushed myself as hard as I could towards it. The numbness in my feet was not helping. It felt like, like when your leg falls asleep, and all the little nerves feel like fireworks bursting out pins and needles.Alice scoured the room for a handle, any handle. Finally her eyes started adjusting, memories flooded back like ideas, it was unexplainable. This was her family's cabin, and she had somehow convinced her parents to go by herself when they had their normal yearly trip. All was good until when she found a man living in the home. The man had been out in the cold winter and needed shelter, but when Alice peered in a bedroom she was quickly knocked out with a poker near the fireplace. He couldn't chance the cold."Focus!" she found herself muttering over and over."Crap." she whispered to herself " That man, he's.. still here!"The door creek was about the last thing she needed, then she was out in the hall. There was some creepy cobwebs in every nook and cranny, the deep red carpet was faded and frayed at the edges. And to make it worse all the flooring was old wood that made the loudest sounds. It was the makings of a horror movie. As she tried her best to swiftly walk through the creaking wood there was a loud crash from another room and she took off. But bounding down the stairs, and crashing into a wall maybe was not the best way to evacuate the cabin with a dangerous possible killer. After placing everything quietly back to cover her tracks, she ran as fast as she could without tripping.Out of breath and tired Alice found a closet to hide in. There was kind of a reason she wasn't out the door already, of course she had picked a season where there was snow. So much snow that Alice could not push it the front door, not even the tiniest amount. The only possible exits were back up the stairs. And here she was, trying to breathe slower and quieter while a guy with a fireplace poker tries to kill her. After a few minutes the fireplace in the other room produced a black silhouette. Alice cursed, she didn't know she had to kill this man. In fact she had no idea what she was going to do, even if she made it out of this. " Oh little girl... I am going to have to extend my stay, terribly sorry" the madman said creepily. "You're insane." Alice shrieked "Well I didn't question your mental state, rude little girl." The man leaned against the fireplace still holding a black metal fireplace poker. The moment had come " Its him or me, and I am not dieing." Alice muttered " I am not dying today." She finally said" Oh so you have a little plan Alice? The only reason your still alive is because I got bored." He sighed dramatically. In that moment I eyed the fireplace poker he had subconsciously dropped and briskly snatched it. " Let me leave and I won't kill you." The man just laughed until he realized Alice's face was raging with anger."I don't think you could actually kill me." The man said fear hidden in his eyes. He didn't step out of the way so that left one last choice. She took the poker with her as a sentiment and bounded up the stairs and out the window. Alice didn't even realize what happened till she shovelled her way to her car. Alice had killed someone.Years later an old woman took a small glance to the left and her whispy grey hair whisked around to the fireplace. Standing against the mouth of it was a single fireplace poker.,
