Gene stood next to Carlos as they waited for Ben. She had promised to yet again accompany the boy to training and of course it had nothing to do with his trainer. "I shouldn't of come," Carlos went to walk away but Gene pulled him back next to her, a smirk toying on her lips, "Oh well. You're here now," she looked for the Beast boy from the castle but unbeknownst to the two VKs, he was coming from the other direction. "Boo," The girl screamed (as did Carlos), Gene's heart racing and the look on her face made the Auradon boy stop laughing. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you that much," he took her left hand and Gene used her right hand to slap him on the chest, ignoring the butterflies in her stomach. He placed his hands where she had hit him, feigning hurt, and Gene crossed her arms, a grumpy look on her face. The angry look on her face which made Ben's smile grow since he thought it was cute. And as Ben's smile grew so did Gene's. But suddenly the girl had stretched her arm out behind her, grabbing something, and the boy gave her a confused smile which vanished when she brought round Carlos who was trying to escape. He did an awkward wave to Ben who just laughed.

"I'm going over there, you stay here," He told the boy before sprinting to the other end of the field, Gene patting his back in support. Once Ben was there, he turned around and grinned at the two. "Okay. Carlos, we're gonna do some sprints," Ben shouted to the boy though he actually just wanted to talk to the girl, who was smirking at Carlos' back. "Yeah, Carlos, sprinting!" She laughed at the boy, who shot her a look. "Not like you can run," she shoved him mumbling a few words about him being stupid or something. The two then got into a small play fight which mainly consisted of them hitting each other and laughing as they fought. "You ready?" Ben questioned making them stop and he was trying so hard not to laugh at the cuteness of Gene. With a final nod, Carlos began to run but suddenly his speed increased. "Oh! Ah! No, wait!"

Ben nodded his head at how fast the boy was sprinting, "Sweet!" But gene knew better. She glanced behind the boy, eyebrows shooting up as she finally got it. His stupid mother and her stories. "Not sweet," Gene responded since she saw what was chasing the boy, sighing when she realised she'd have to run too. "No! Ah!" He continued to run and as he entered the woods Ben began to worry, "Carlos? Carlos!" Both Ben and Gene chased him, hearing him continue to scream, "No, stop!" Ben continued to run as Gene slowed down, she knew Ben would get to him and he would be okay. Why did she need to rush? She didn't, that was the truth. "Carlos!" Ben still shouted after the boy without realising Gene had slowed down.

As the brunette approached them she heard Carlos talking, "She's a dog expert. A dog yellerer. Why are you holding him? He's gonna attack you!" Ben had the dog in his hands and Gene backed away slightly. She had had to listen to Cruella's 'facts' about dogs for all her life. Never leaving the house and experiencing anything about the real world created a trust in what the adults said, even when she knew that trust was misplaced. "Carlos, you've never actually met a dog, have you?" Ben questioned the boy, having not noticed Gene's equal amount of fear just yet. "Of course not," Gene only just realised that he was hugging a tree and was slightly disappointed in herself for not noticing sooner. "Dude, meet Carlos and Gene. Guys, this is dude. He's the campus mutt," he showed the two the dog and they both stared, hesitant to move any closer.
