𝖓𝖊𝖝𝖙 𝖉𝖆𝖞
Once again today I spent my whole time with Abuelita until she fell asleep and then I was on my own. I thought about my evening yesterday with Cesar's brother, I wonder why he invited me inside and why he didn't speak. This whole situation seemed sus to me.
I try not to think about but it was the only thing filled my mind, everything that happened was on constant replay in mind last night, how Cesar reacted when he saw me, how spooky looked at me, how I felt, how I got tingles down my back when looked me in eyes. I'm not saying I'm attracted to him... but he is attractive
"hey jo" a voice that interrupted me in my thoughts, I looked over my shoulder to see Mrs. Martinez walking over to me "hi" I smiled as I continued to clean the counter
"I wanna say thank you for being such a helping hand, it really means a lot- not mention the twins love you," she says
"it's the least I can do- you opened your home out to me- and the twin are so lovely" I smiled
Mrs. Martinez smiled "do you have any siblings?" She asked before realizing that question was very personal "oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean-" she says before I cut her off "no it's fine- no I am an only child" I say giving her a reassuring smile
The front door opened and walked Olivia, Ruby, Jamal, Monse and Cesar "hi guys" Mrs. Martinez greeted the bunch they all said hi back in broken unison. They scattered between the living room or dining room, I was really trying to avoid Cesar but that ended when he walked up to me
"Hey, Jo?" He spoke
I looked up from what I was doing "can I talk to you for a sec?" He asked with the look of urgency covered his face "um yeah- sure" I say before walking into Ruby's room and he followed behind me. I turn around to face as he closed the door behind before looking at me.
"What's up?" I asked as he opened his mouth to speak he was interrupted by the door opening and in walked Ruby "what's going on?" He asked closing the door behind him "as I was going to say" Cesar says before the door opened again and in walked Monse "why is everybody in here?" She asked closing the door behind her
"As I was saying again," he says before the door opened again and Jamal walked in. Everyone gave him a look as he entered the room "I just wanted to feel included" Jamal says as he puts his hands on his hips "continue" Jamal gesture to Cesar
"As I was saying," Cesar says "again," he says as he gave Jamal a look. He turned back to me "why were you at the house yesterday?" he asked,
"you were at his house?" Ruby and Monse asked in unison and Jamal gasped "why?" he asked
"that's literally what I just asked" Cesar mumbled
"I was taking a walk and I was walking past your house- and I saw everyone sitting on the lawn- I couldn't run away- it would have been too much of a risk, so I tried to walk past but spooky- stopped me" I tried to explained
"did he say anything?" ruby asked
"he only asked me if I was new around the neighborhood and what was my name," I say
"did he say anything when you left?" Cesar asked
"No- why?" I asked
"Because he's asking for you- he got his guys out looking for you," Cesar says
"what?!" I say
"yep you're dead," Jamal says earning a look everyone else
"what? I said that out loud!" he says before apologizing to me
"what are we gonna do?" ruby asked
"I'm gonna go to him," I say getting ready to walk out before they stopped
"Woah! stop!" they pushed me away from the door "what am I suppose to do then?" I asked
"We'd figured out but-" ruby says
"But walking to him- then you're definitely would be walking into your own funeral" Monse says
"yeah and for now you should lay low" Cesar says
"I can't" I shake my head
"what do you mean-" ruby start to say but I cut him off
"I've been homeless since I was 17, I know what's it like to be out on the streets. If I were to lay low behind my dumpster it'll alright because if they found me, it would be just me. No one else would get hurt but now I'm sleeping here- with your family Ruby!- I don't even want to think what happened if they found me here- I can't do that not to your family" I say
I pushed passed Monse and Jamal as I opened the door and walked to the front, Mrs. Martinez called out for me but I didn't listen as I walked through the front door and down the stairs
