"Hey princess. Blake", Daniel says as we walk into his office.
"Wow, I'm really feeling the love here", Blake says sarcastically.
"Aww it's ok. Complete the heart Blake, complete the heart", I say putting my hand up in a half heart shape. She puts her hand up and matches it and we laugh.
"What was that?" Daniel asks laughing.
"Oh, it was just something an old friend of ours used to do", I start.
"His name was Hill, he was a really good friend of ours until his family moved to another pack a few years ago...", Blake trails off. "I really miss him".
"You really miss who?", James says, somewhat darkly, as he walks into the room.
"Relax babe it's just an old friend of ours", Blake says.
"Yeah... But I agree, I miss him too", Daniel scowls and I laugh. "Maybe one day once this has all settled down we can call him", I suggest.
"Once what has all settled down?", Daniel asked. Blake and I look at each other.
I shrug, "You know, the whole running away from home thing..."
"Ah", he says understandingly. "You know, I just realized when you were talking about Hill, I don't really know anything about you", he frowns.
"Neither do I", James frowns.
"Well in all fairness we've only known each other for a few days", I say casually.
"Yeah well you are my mate so I'd like to get to know you", Daniel says firmly.
"Same here", James agrees.
"Alright well why don't we do this, you ask us a question, we answer it, you also answer it, and then we ask a question. Sound good?", Blake suggests.
"Works for me", I say, and the boys agree.
"Alright first question", James begins. "What about family?"
We both smile sadly and look at each other, I speak up. "You're looking at it". They both look sad.
"Now don't look so sad", Blake tells them. "My mother was a human and she died of cancer when I was ten, and my dad", she shrugged. "He just couldn't cope, and he got so weak he died a year later", James pulled her into his lap. "It's ok, it was painful but Kate helped me through it. Living with my crazy extended family the Jensens didn't help though".
"How do you mean?", James asked.
"Oh my gosh they were horrible", I said recalling the memories.
"Who?" Daniel asked.
"My aunt Margaret, uncle Steve, and my cousin Johnny. Let's just say they didn't like me very much".
"Impossible", James protested.
"Oh it's possible", I laughed. "Aunt Margaret was just bitchy about everything because she was really jealous of her sister. 'Oh why is Grace prettier than me, why is she smarter than me, why is she more talented than me, why is her mate more attractive than mine? Oh woh is me'", I said in a really whiny voice.
Blake laughed so hard she cried, "That was the most accurate thing I have ever seen!" She finally managed to stop laughing. "Anyway, Steve never did anything productive, Johnny was just an obnoxious moron, and aunt Margaret didn't like me because I reminded her of my mother. As much as I despise spending time with them, I guess I sort of consider them family. In the five years that I lived with them I literally spent 80% of my time with Kate and her parents", she shrugs. "They were more my family than the Jensens", she shrugged and smiled at me.
"It's true, that was when we went from being best friends, to being sisters", I smiled. "My parents really loved her like a second daughter", I turn to Daniel. "They were both killed in a rouge attack when I was fifteen". Daniel looks sad and snuggles me closer to him.
"Wow you really know how to pick a topic, don't you James", Daniel says slapping him on the back.
We laugh, "It's alright. We choose to remember the good memories instead of dwelling on the bad, like my mother teaching us observation starting when we were eight".
"Observation?", James asks.
"Yeah. She taught us how to notice things that no one else notices and infer things about them. Like you see little hairs on someone's pants and ask them how their cat is doing. We've even managed to convince a bunch of people that we're psychic, it's really fun", I giggle.
"Wow. You need to teach us that sometime", Daniel says in awe.
"Alright but it took us years to master it", Blake says. "Anyway, I'm not really sure if I had any grandparents but I had the Jensens as I said and my mother was named Grace and my father was named Charlie. My mother was an artist and she taught us both how to paint, how to use a chainsaw, and how build a life-sized statue out of sticks, a glue gun, and toilet paper..."
"Ah the good old days", I say, smiling at the memories.
"She taught two ten year olds how to use a chainsaw?!" James asked incredulously.
"Seven. We were seven", Blake explained.
"What?!", they both exclaimed.
"Well in all fairness it was just a little chainsaw... And it was super fun", I said excitedly.
"Haha! What are we gonna do with you girls?", James laughs.
"Anyway", I start. "My mom was named Mary Ella, and my dad was named Darren. The only grandparent I ever met was my mom's mother who disappeared when I was twelve and I don't have any cousins that I know of. My mom worked with the pack doctor and my dad was a pack warrior, they both taught me all sorts of great and useful things. Like my mom taught me how to observe and infer like we showed you before, she also taught me how to identify plants, and to sneak up on people. My dad taught me self-defense and programming. After they died I didn't really have any family left so it was either be put in the system or live on my own so I just stayed in my house by myself for a few weeks before I invited Blake to come live with me. She'd basically been coming over 24/7 to check on me and see how I was doing so we just figured, what harm would there be in her moving in. People said two teenage girls living together with no-one to take care of them was a bad idea but we just told them it was better than one teenage girl living by herself. After all they couldn't force me out of my house so they eventually realized that it would be best if we could look out for each other", I shrugged.
"Of course auntie dearest and Johnny were more than happy that I was leaving. Steve was fairly worried about me but he couldn't go against his wife", she explained.
We were silent for a few minutes, "So what about you guys?", I asked.
"Oh, right", Daniel said with realization. "Well my mother is named Lucy and she was good friends with my dad, Xavier, her whole life until they realized they were mates on his sixteenth birthday. And you can guess what happened from there. Two years later they had me, three years later they had my sister Alyssa, and six years later they had my sister Ellie".
I smile brightly, "You have sisters?!", I squeal.
"Yeah?"
"She loves siblings, she understands how annoying they can be, but she loves them", Blake explains. "Continue", she gestures for him to keep talking.
"Ok, well my father taught me how to run a strong pack-"
"And he was a major momma's boy ", James adds.
"I was not", he argues.
"You were to", James retorts.
He looked like he was going to ague again so I touched his arm, he looked at me, "I think it's sweet that you love your mom".
"I do", he says dreamily.
"Whipped!", James laughed. Blake rolled her eyes and leaned over and whispered in his ear.
He shivered, "Yes I am immature". He then frowns at what he just said.
Daniel, Blake, and I laugh. "Ha! You're even worse than me", Daniel mocks.
"Yeah yeah", he grumbles. "Anyway, my parents are Ariana and James, the Beta's of the pack. Mom was in another pack that our pack went to visit when dad was seventeen. Although when they first met, she actually didn't want a mate. Her friend's mate had passed away and she didn't want to risk going through that. But eventually dad convinced her, I get my bad boy charm from him", he leans back with his hands behind his head.
I laugh, "What bad boy charm?"
He frowns and fake pouts, "Aww it's ok teddy bear I think you have bad boy charm", Blake coos.
"Thank- Wait, teddy bear?!" She just laughs. "As I was saying. They had me and then a few years later they had the twins-"
"Twins!!", Blake squealed.
"She loves the idea of twins", I explain.
"Yeah well you won't like my twins, Cody and Rilynn are a pain in the- Oww!", Blake whacks him on the back of the head.
"Don't say mean things about your siblings", she scolds.
"I wasn't! I was going to say they are such pains in the... oranges", Blake just raises an eyebrow at him.
"Alright", I break the awkward silence. "Our question... How many girls have you been with", they both would have choked had they been drinking anything.
"Why would you want to know that?", James asks nervously.
"A few reasons. One, we want to know how many more angry and jealous girls we'll have to deal with", Blake starts.
"Two, we want to know how much blackmail we have on you", I continue. They gulp.
"And three, we'd like to know where we stand now so it doesn't come up in a really awkward situation in the future", she finishes.
"Alright well I'll go first", James says nervously. "Well I'm ashamed to say that I had kind of a lot of one night stands in high school. I wasn't a very good guy. I've had four long-term relationships, Rachel, June, Roxy, and-"
"Cloe?", Blake asks with a growl.
"Yeah, how did you know?"
She growls again, "Because that bitch had the audacity to claim that you were her mate".
"What?!", he shoots into the air. "We weren't even serious! We just screwed around every once in a while, she wasn't even ever my girlfriend!", he screamed.
Blake beamed, "That's what I wanted to hear". She pulls him down next to her and kisses him on the cheeks, then she whispers something in his ear that makes him smile creepily. "Your turn Daniel", she says.
He gulps and rubs the back of his neck, "Alright, well in high school I was a pretty bad kid, didn't like authority and I... I slept around a lot", he looked down ashamed. "I would be with the girls and forget about them. I've only had three long-term things, with Sydney, Darcy, and", don't say Jocelyn don't say Jocelyn, "Jocelyn."
Dammit!! I growl.
Don't worry Katie I'm just as pissed as you, Blake told me.
"Kate?", Daniel asks. "I'm really sorry. I really do regret-", I stop him.
"No it's not that, I can't judge you for your past, you were waiting for your mate for seven years, I understand. I just wish you hadn't been with that bitch Jocelyn." I growl again.
"Oh thank- You know Jocelyn?", he asks confused.
"Yeah, we ran into her with Cloe. She also claimed to be your mate", Blake explained.
Daniel's eyes widened, "What?! But I broke up with her last year".
"Yeah well she clearly doesn't understand that", I say grumbling. He pulls me into his arms and buries his face into my neck.
"I'm sorry. I'm really, really sorry", he mumbles into my hair.
"It's alright", I say stroking his hair.
"Let's move on shall we", James suggests. "Now I do believe you girls owe us the same answer". Blake and I glance at each other.
"Alright well...", I start...
We continued to talk and found out a lot of interesting things about each other like, James was afraid of parrots because of an unfortunate incident when he was six, and when Daniel was thirteen he lost his four year old sister Ellie in an amusement park. We told them the story of how Blake accidentally stole the teacher's phone in the seventh grade because she thought it was hers and got suspended because they didn't believe her, how I had to let a bunch of friends sleep over at my house when I was seventeen because they were too drunk to be left at home alone, and how, for our senior prank, Blake and I let three pigs loose in the school labeled 1, 2, and 4, and there was no school for a week before they finally realized there was no 3rd pig. We also all saw each other's Wolves. Daniel's wolf is midnight black, James' wolf is a very dark brown, and of course my wolf is pure white, and Blake's wolf is midnight black. We basically told them everything they needed to know. The only important things we had failed to mention was the fact that my grandmother was a nature spirit, and that I was engaged to Richard (and supposed to be dead). I wasn't exactly sure how to tell him that, but I'd find a way to, and as soon as I did I'd tell him.
