Two Alphas Too Many

Getting Ready

"So, is there anything else you girls haven't told us?", Daniel asks the next morning at breakfast.
I look at Blake.
Might as well.
Yeah.
I don't have the energy to lie. I had a pretty late night due to a very, very long conversation with Blake about the fact that I was now marked. Daniel and I had agreed that we wouldn't let anyone see it until the introduction ceremony but Blake had gotten suspicious and practically wrestled me to the floor to confirm her suspicions. Then we talked about it... Until four in the morning.
"We have a mind link that we've been using to talk about you guys", Blake says casually. James spits out his drink and Daniel chokes on his bacon.
"What?! But that's impossi-", James starts.
"No it's not, and I'm a nature spirit", I say simply. Daniel chokes on the water he was drinking to stop his coughing and I laugh. "Oh baby, I'm sorry, are you ok?" I ask still laughing.
He just ignores my question. "You're a what?" Daniel asks.
"It's kind of like a witch", Blake explains. "But more attuned to nature. Their magic is mostly centered around protecting and preserving plants and animals. And they are much more peaceful", she shrugs as if it's an every day topic.
"Wait! Are you one too?!", James asks her incredulously.
"Nope, just her", she explains.
"So, you have powers?", Daniel clarifies.
"No. I have magic".
"No way", James says.
"Can you show us?", he asks.
"Sure", I look around until I see a vase of wilting flowers in the corner. "Just a sec", I walk over, pick up the vase, and bring it back over. I slowly stroke the stems of the flowers as I whisper the incantation. A soft golden glow starts to surround my fingers and the flowers. The stems slowly stand themselves up and the color returns to the bouquet.
"Wow", Daniel says with awe.
"That's some crazy ass magic you got there", James said. Blake slaps him up the back of the head. "Ow! I was just saying".
"So... How can you do that?", Daniel asks as Blake just sits there admiring the flowers.
"It's in my blood. Do you remember my grandmother? The one I told you about", He nodded. "Well she was a full nature spirit and she somehow ended up a mate to a werewolf. Then they had my mother, a half nature spirit half werewolf, and then she found her mate, and they had me", I shrugged. "Being a full nature spirit herself, my grandmother trained me to use my magic. Of course I didn't have nearly as much as her since I'm only 1/4 nature spirit and 3/4s werewolf. And then as soon as she finished my training when I was twelve she vanished".
"That's... Wow".
I laugh, "I know... And I'd appreciate it if neither of you told anyone".
"And by that she means we'll castrate you if you do", Blake adds.
"No we won't, probably. But seriously, Blake is the only person I've ever told so I'm really trusting you guys".
James puts his hand over his heart, "Your secret is safe with me Luna".
"Oh don't call me Luna", I whine. They all laugh and we go back to eating.
Suddenly our peaceful silence is interrupted by the phone ringing. Daniel pulls it out of his pocket and puts it up to his ear. "Hello?", he abruptly pulls it back because the caller is screaming.
It's not hard to hear what they're saying, "DANIEL XAVIER YOUNG!!!! How could you not tell me you found your mate!?! I am your mother!! I have been waiting for you to find your mate for seven years and when you find her you don't tell me!!!! Is there something wrong?! I swear if you rejected her or upset her I will cut off your-"
"MOTHER!! There is nothing wrong, I would never reject her so would you calm down please?" Oh no.
"Calm down!!!! CALM DOWN!!!!!!!! How am I supposed to calm down!?!?!?!?"
"Oh give me that", I say as I snatch the phone out of his hand. "Daniel don't ever tell a woman to calm down. It NEVER works. You'd have more luck trying to baptize a cat", Blake laughs. I put the phone to my ear, "Hi, Mrs. Young? I'm Daniel's mate".
"Really?", she squeals. "That's wonderful, you didn't leave him".
"Why would I have left him?", I ask laughing.
"Well... I don't know, I'm sorry it's just when I found out that he found his mate days ago but he hadn't told me I assumed the worst. I'm sorry for how I reacted", she said embarrassed.
"It's totally fine. I probably would have reacted the same way", I say truthfully.
"Really?"
"Truly".
"That's so sweet of you, thanks".
"No problem. I'm Kate by the way".
"That's such a beautiful name, my name's Lucy".
"So I've been told. Anyway I would love to meet you in person Mrs. Young".
"I would love that! How about you and my son come over for dinner tonight? And forget this Mrs. Young business, call me Lucy." Before I could answer Daniel plucked the phone from my hands.
"I have alpha business. How about tomorrow, and we can have James introduce his mate to his parents as well", he suggests.
"JAMES FOUND HIS MATE?!?!?!?!?!?! PUT HIM ON THE PHONE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!", we hear another female voice (that I'm assuming belongs to James' mother) shout.
"Aww shit Daniel", James groans.
I take the phone from Daniel and wave it at Blake, "Your turn". She laughs and takes it from my hand.
"Hello? Mrs. Edwards?" After she's managed to calm her down we agree that we'll have dinner with both James' and Daniel's families at Daniel's parents house tomorrow (Thursday) night.
