All was silent in the Vacker home. Not a single noise was heard, save for the brush of a branch in the wind.
Biana and Dex were sound asleep, Alden and Della were sound asleep, Sophie and Fitz were sound asleep.
But something was not.
The hiss of a name, Sophie's name, echoed around the large bedroom. It was high pitched and scared, causing Sophie to stir in her sleep.
"sophie..." the name was dragged out, giving it a snake like sound.
This time, Sophie recognized it, and two scared green eyes popped into the front of her mind as her eyes shot open and she sat up in a hurry.
Her breathing was heavy, and she placed her hand over her beating heart in an attempt to calm down.
A giggle caught her attention. She turned her head, examining her sleeping fiance. He was there, his dark hair falling in his face. He looked so peaceful.
Sophie shook her head, sliding to her feet as she whisper yelled, "Biana?". Her name being called was her only response.
"A-Amy?"
Suddenly, the door swung open and a girl ran past it. She had the build and hair of her little sister.
"Amy!" Her voice ached as she stepped closer to the open door. Fitz stirred in his sleep, waking up. Sophie didn't hear nor see him. Considering how cold it was, Sophie grabbed a nearby brown cloak, wrapping it around her neck.
Taking a deep breath she raced out of the room.
Fitz followed.
"Amy! Is that you? What are you doing in the lost cities..?!"
She hurried down the stairs, rushing towards the front door and down crystal halls.
A little while later, and many giggles later, they were outside. The grass was wet with dew, making Sophie wonder what time it was.
Amy's unmistakable cry came from down a pasture, and Sophie followed it.
Suddenly, she stopped in front of a large lake.
"Sophie! Please stop!"
Tears welled in her eyes as she saw her sister.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" Sophie called out and ask.
"THE BAD MEN WERE THERE, THE ONES THAT TOOK MOM AND DAD!" She replied. It was really her.
Wait.
Bad Men?
"There.. are no remaining members of the Neverseen..Amy, are you sure that's who you saw?"
"Sophie!? Can you come here? To me? I'm scared."
Looking both ways, and seeing no immediate path to her sister, she backed up and ran towards the lake.
She caught herself with her levitation.
"Now Amy, stay there. I'll be right the-."
Her sister was gone. She had split into two new figures, each of them about Sophie's age.
Fitz figured out who they were first. "SOPHIE!" he called out in a frantic stage.
As she floated there, above the halfway across the lake, she turned her head over her shoulder, meeting eyes with Fitz.
"Hello..Sophie." Keefe greeted, his sickening grin heard in his voice.
"What...?!" Sophie asked, he caught her off guard and her ballance quivered. "WOAH!"
Something knocked her off and she plummeted towards the water.
She wasn't high enough for her to teleport, but the water looked so deep and cold.
Her assumptions were confirmed as a distressed, "SOPHIE!" called out as she hit the water.
She shot her hand out, as if to grab an invisible arm. The water wasn't salty, and she somehow opened her eyes, seeing the blurry shapes outside of the water.
A blast came from her hand, causing the surface of the water to crystalize.
Her eyes widened as she stared at her hand, but she sunk deeper and deeper still, and the lack of air made her pass out. She had frozen her only way out.
Laughter licked her skin, dragging her back to consciousness. Her eyes shot open. She wanted to scream, but a thick cloth blocked her.
The feeling was all too familiar. She had been kidnapped, again. Her hair and skin were still damp. Along with the cloth, her knees, feet, hands and arms had been tied with strong rope.
She tried pulling free. It didn't work. But, the cloth slid down face and off her mouth.
"Struggling?" Stina emerged from the shadows. "Well, that will get you nowhere."
"YOU."
"Why yes, me."
"What do you want with me?" Sophie asked and Stina paced around her in circles.
"It's not fully what I want. It's what he wants."
Keefe stepped forward, revealing himself.
"Seriously? You put together your pity party to come and abduct me?" She asked with anger and boredom in her voice.
"You made my life a living hell. Since day one." He stalked closer and stared down at her.
A long and dark silence hung over their shoulders as Sophie let out silent sobs. She thought about what he had said, and how the pieces to the puzzle didn't fit.
"'Exactly, Foster. You're always the safe bet.'"
"What is she-" Stina started.
"'Well... I'm glad he's been there for you. Uh... you've seen how cute she is, right? I'll still love you when you're oozy'!" She mimicked his voice perfectly every time she quoted him. "You're not upset that I've been 'making your life a living hell.', you're upset because of where I sent you. And how I rejected you when you told me you loved me."
His eyes widened.
"Let. Me. Go."
He grabbed her jaw, squeezing it so hard she yelped with pain. "And how do you assume you get out? You expect a change of heart? Wake. UP! You're not living in your fairy tale anymore, there is no knight in shining armor. There are no friends. You have no parents. THERE ARE NO HAPPY ENDINGS!"
He threw her to the side, causing her to slide across the floor and hit into the wall.
Her vision faded as she drifted off to her nightmare filled land, once again.
