This was done for a contest hosted by CharoletteBuurn and the prompt was Black Hole. Enjoy!
Doc walked through Dead Dog Gulch after collecting his winnings from the Game of Life, when he saw Ren kneeling next to the grave of Ren the Kid. Doc walked over to him, "Hey Ren, no hard feelings about the Game of Life right?"
Ren glared at Doc, his eyes watering, "Do you not understand how much I needed to win that Doc? That was all my diamonds, and I'm not going to get Pamela back now!"
"Look, I'm sorry dude, but I won fair and square, I bet all of my diamonds too! I was broke!" Doc replied, backing up a couple steps.
Ren abruptly stood up, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword. "I'm broke too Doc! If I don't get the diamonds to Jevin by the end of the month Pamela's going to be slaughtered!" Ren's face lit up, as if he had an idea, and he smiled hysterically. He drew his sword and jabbed it at Doc, who wasn't wearing a chestplate because of his elytra.
Doc, not expecting the action, took the blow, but instinctively turned to the side enough for the blow to only cut the skin, and not go through the ribs. Doc panicked and jumped back, holding his hands over his wound, applying pressure to help stop the bleeding. Doc glared at Ren, "This won't be the last you see of me Ren!" he said, before flying off to his base to patch himself up. When Doc reached his half-house, he grabbed some medical supplies, and went to hide in the top of Testificate Tower, ignoring the cruel taunts of his neighbor Bdubs. Doc collapsed on the floor, right behind the chair of his organ, his communicator falling out of lab coat pocket. He pulled his hand away from the wound and bandaged himself up. He didn't have the strength to move, so he lay on the ground, nibbling a golden carrot. As he sat, he thought about Ren, and how he had so mercilessly stabbed him. He couldn't escape this roleplay, everything he did just brought him further and further away from escape.
The sound of rockets brought Doc out of thought, and he saw the blurry form of someone flying into the top of the tower. "H-hello?" Doc stuttered weakly, not even bothering to move from his spot.
"I will have your head Doc! I need to win these diamonds!" Jevin's voice rang through Doc's head. It took a moment for Doc to process what Jevin had said, but as soon as he did, he weakly stood up, swaying on his feet, and stumbled over to his left, where there was another opening. He didn't get very far before Jevin caught up to him, slashing Doc with the sword. Doc fell back, and upon hitting the ground, exploded into a shower of items. He respawned back at his half-mansion, sitting up in bed with a gasp, as if waking up from a nightmare. His injury from Ren had been healed in the respawn, and he had his energy back. Grabbing an extra sword, Doc boated over to Testificate Tower and used the water elevator to get up and grab his items, hoping that Jevin had at least put them in a chest. Thankfully, he had, and Doc equipped his armor and elytra, making sure to keep an eye out for other head hunters. Another thing he couldn't escape from. He wasn't even going to think about Tag 2: Electric Boogalo, he was just glad he didn't have the tag.
Doc traded with his villagers, and while he waited for their trades to reset, went back to his half house to check the casino, though he doubted anyone had played. Keralis was the only one to play, and he sided with his neighbor Bdubs, and blew up Mount Goatmore. Yet another thing he couldn't escape from. How did this even start? With the house, and how they each got half?
Doc sat on the edge of the pink bed in the room Bdubs made him, and came to a conclusion: Everything was a black hole. He couldn't escape any of this, just like you can't escape a black hole. Well, he supposed he could escape it, but did he really want to leave Hermitcraft? Doc thought back to the memories he had of Hermitcraft, and how much fun he had throughout the seasons. Area 77, the Civil War, the nHo... the list went on. And his friends, he couldn't just leave everyone behind. So no, Doc wasn't going to leave Hermitcraft. Not yet...
Doc was drawn out of his thoughts when he heard a soft "Doc?" It was Etho, standing in front of him. "Are you okay Doc? The chat's going crazy, you didn't respond to anything." Doc reached for his communicator, before realizing that it wasn't there.
"Can I see?" Doc replied a little hoarsely. Etho handed Doc his communicator, and he read through the chat, everyone wondering where he was, and how he wasn't responding to anything. Doc gave the communicator back to Etho, and realized that he was still waiting for a response to his first question. "I'm, I'm not doing great Etho"
Etho went to sit next to Doc, "Do you want to talk about it?"
"I guess.. I just feel like everything that is going on is just getting to be too much. Ren stabbed me earlier, because I had won the Game of Life, and he needed Pamela back. Then Jevin killed me for my head, and I couldn't do anything about it, I had lost so much blood already."
"Have you tried taking a break from it all?"
"I can't Etho, I can't escape this, everything I do just prevents me from escaping it all. I considered leaving Hermitcraft, just now, before you came in."
Etho looked down, "Are you going to leave then?" He sounded like he was holding back tears.
"No, I'm not going to leave, not yet at least." Doc pulled Etho into an awkward side hug, before letting go a moment later. "It's really because of you and Beef, why I'm not leaving. I love hanging out with you guys, maybe you a little more" Doc muttered the last part, hoping Etho wouldn't hear.
Unfortunately for Doc, Etho did indeed hear what he said, "Really Doc? You mean it?"
"Yeah," Doc whispered. Etho hugged Doc, another awkward side hug, and then they sat, enjoying each other's presence.
