RECAP

AVA WOODS' POV

A scream sounded, so full of pain and anguish. It sounded almost...human.

          And then...silence.

          Deafening, thick, crushing silence.

Whimpering, I curled up as best I could. I lay there for a while, not daring to disturb the quiet.

Soon, I was lost in a fitful sleep.

          And then the dreams began.

AVA WOODS' POV

Fire...choking smoke...can't breathe...where am I?? Houses are burning...street littered with bodies... Run...hurry! There's no time! Blurred faces, hands reaching out, children are dying!! Notch help! That man is killing people...HIS EYES! NO! LOOK AWAY!!! Run, don't stop, he's coming...singled out...next victim, LORD NOTCH PLEASE NO HELP ME!

'P̵̻̲͕̓̅̓͐̚-̷̧́̆̽̓l̵͎̣̪̓͜ẽ̶̗́͌ą̸̢͇̪̀̐̑͒s̸̨͚͙̞͊s̷̺̹͐s̴̨̢̛̭̘̹͐s̵̨̹̬̠͉̈́͂͆̏̃s̵̢͂̈́̾̎͠e̷͖͙̲̔̆̓ͅ,̶̢̤̆̓̊̔ ̵̫̦̋̈͠͝ý̸̝̺͚̙̋ơ̶̛͍̖̈́̓͑o̵͉̗͍͎̫̓͊̓̊͝ó̴̲̤̩̱̥̔̔o̵̫̠̾̓̽ú̴͚̪̑̋̔'̸̨̨̡̜͎͗v̷̝͈͗̔̎͑e̵̪̅̓ ̶̭̼͔̈̑̕͠g̷̣̳̫̈́ͅo̴̱̤̮͗ẗ̵̝́̄t̸̡͕̪̔̓́͝ť̵̺̩̈́̌͐͝ẗ̷̨̩̮̝̹̓ ̶͍̜̟͔̖́́ṱ̴̢̮̞̣̎t̵̨̛̖͎̠͈o̸̪͗ ̷̥͔̅h̶̙̪͇͈̳́̒͌͠e̴̢̤̕͝l̴̺̞̯̦̈́͑̈́p̴̪̭̩͔̒̕ ̶̠̀̃̇̾h̴̛͚̋͋͆͐h̵̼̝̭̥̆̚h̷̛̳̋̈́̽h̷͈̭͓̩̯͌͝͠i̴̧̯͎̅̂̎͠͝m̷̦̓....a blurred face with reaching arms filled my sight, then quickly vanished as a man with a wicked grin swung a bloodstained iron sword at my defenseless form.

         "Aaaahhh!"

I jerked awake with a gasp, only to cry out from the pain. My spine was aching, and my torso wounds were throbbing again, my stomach sick. That dream...again...why wasn't it going away...

Shuddering, I forced myself to breathe slowly, holding still as the sharp, stabbing sensations dulled to a steady ache. Unknowingly, I began to shiver, the pitiful rags, torn and stiff with red-brown stains of old blood, did little to help me sustain warmth, the stones around me seemed to suck the heat right out of my body. My very bones ached with the cold. I cast my eyes towards the old door. The plate and now-empty bucket still sat there, gathering dust.

I guessed the monster got my savior.

Moaning, I merely curled up a little more, wondering what my fate would be.
