"Why is it so hot here? Zahra asked as soon as we walked out of the airport. My grandmother, Daadi paid for our flight to Yola and Aunt leema will be coming over tomorrow with our grandmother and my two uncles from katsina. I could only imagine how dreadful tomorrow will be
"Welcome to Yola" I replied glancing at her briefly.
"We are so staying for two days only" She said huffing
"No we are not" I retorted about to dial the number of the person sent to pick us up.
"Humaira, I'm here" I heard his voice before even dialling and turned my head to see my uncle, the youngest in my mother's family.
"Uncle Aliyu" I screamed running and dragging my trolley.
"Maimai" He laughed as I slightly hugged him
"Uncle, how are you? I asked grinning while he collected my trolley
"I'm good maimai. How are you?
"Alhamdulillah"
"Maimai, don't ever run away like that. You literally embarrassed my entire generation" Zahra complained as she caught up with me panting heavily
"In front of who? These people you will probably not see forever? And it is my voice and my legs so let me do what I want, if someone doesn't like it then he should fry egg on his head" I retorted sticking my tongue out at her
"Humaira you didn't change at all" He laughed shaking his head "Zahra how are you?
"I'm fine Uncle Aliyu thank you" She replied politely and I silently snicker
"Well ladies, I'm your chauffeur now and I, am at your service. Please do let me take you to your destination" Uncle Aliyu said bowing dramatically
"Of course, lead the way" I replied with a short bow of my own and he walked away laughing while we followed behind him

"Assalamualaikum" I uttered as soon as I stepped a foot inside the house
"Wa'alaikumus Salam, Addah" Zainab dropped the remote control she held and quickly ran to hug me
"I missed you" I said hugging her back
"Addah Zahra" She exclaimed again hugging Zahra while Uncle Aliyu came in with the bags
"Thank you Uncle" I said collecting them
"A pleasure baby girl" He bopped my nose and headed to the kitchen
"Adderh I missed you" Zainab said collecting the nylon bag from Zahra
"I missed you too and Maami. Where is she?
"But something about you has changed Addah" Zainab said tilting her head to one side.
"Nothing changed about me Zainab. Where is Maami" I said in a tired voice watching Zahra who is slumped on the chair with a big "ahh"
"Ah I get it. You are skinny and dark" She laughed clapping her hands and I sent her a glare
"I'm not skinny or dark and I've been asking you WHERE IS MAAMI? I shouted and Zahra raised her head to give the he "seriously" look
"Ohh Addah. How I missed your shouting" Zainab said shaking her head as she went back sit down
WTH! I'm so going to strangle this girl
I looked at her furiously "Zainab I'm asking you for the last time, where's....
"Leave it to Humaira to start shouting at her sister minuets after she arrived" Came my grandmother's voice as she ascended the stairs look beautiful as always. My grandfather left them enough wealth to still make her look this beautiful and exquisite a decade after his death.
"Daadi" I screamed and ran to hug her . "I miss you so much Daadi" I added as she hugged me back
"I miss you too my beautiful namesake. How are you doing? She asked as we broke the hug
"I'm doing good Alhamdulillah. How are you?
"Well, I'm still beautiful as ever" She replied and I let out a hearty laugh. Daadi was everything I needed after what happened.
"Good afternoon daadi" Zahra greeted standing up from the couch
"Good afternoon my darling. Zahra right, how are you?
"I'm good. Thank you"
"Where's Maami? I quickly chirped in
"Ohh she went out for a boring programme taking place but she will be back soon"
"Ohh okay then"
"Come, let me show you your rooms"
"Daadi I know the rooms we are staying in" I said with a laugh
"Ohh please, let me do the pleasure of showing you. Just act along" She replied sashaying past us and heading upstairs with her boubou flowing behind her.
"I like her" Zahra whispered to me as we head upstairs with me shaking my head.
We followed Daadi right on her heels as she led us into the room on the left hand side of the hallway. It had a simple cream and mustard theme. With a king sized bed, a six set wardrobe, a TV, a door leading to the laundry and one to the bathroom, a coach and a tea table with two chairs.
"I turned on the heater and AC an hour before you arrived. Now you take your baths, pray and I will have food sent to you, eat and try to rest before your mother comes back" Daadi said turning on the ombre lights only
"Thank you Daadi. I can finally relax" Zahra exclaimed dramatically
"You're welcome darling" She turned to leave then looked back at us raising a finger "Ohh and that couch is a massager" She added and sent us a wink before leaving the room
"Humaira we can spend as many days as you want" Zahra shouted falling on the water bed
"You can say that now" I replied heading to the bathroom. I could really use a hot shower right now.

"Addah, Addah, Addah"
I slowly opened my eyes and saw Zainab hovering on my head .
"What? I groaned waking up
"Maami is back. She has been asking where you are"
"Go, I'm coming" I replied and she instead walked and sat on the couch
"Nope, I'm staying here and telling you all about what is happening and this new school that I started. So Daadi enrolled me in APTI and oh my goodness, it's amazing. I met many children there and all our cousins school there too. How cool is that? And also, you know Sadeeq, this cousin of ours who just finished his studies from Coventry, England. He is so cool. He brings me chocolates and cakes every single time he visits. And guess what? Daadi got me an iPad to study but I of course added games to it. Anyways so we go to the park every weekend and sometimes I follow Daadi to this Sunday hangout she and her friends do. It is the fanciest thing ever"
"Daadi do hangouts? I asked grabbing my scarf
"Yes she does. And it's sort of a picnic where we eat, take pictures ,laugh and have fun"
"I see. So you have enjoyed your stay so far"
"Are you kidding me. I'm starting to regret staying in Abuja for years" She said face palming herself
"We do come here Zainab" I replied rolling my eyes
"Yes but never stayed for so long"
"Whatever. I'm going to go meet Maami" I replied opening the door
"Wait for me" She added quickly following me and I carefully closed the door behind her.
