A blind date

The entire library was silent when I smacked my book open on the table. It must've been a little too loud, because a few students from other tables glared over at me. I made an apologetic grimace before leaning my head down to concentrate on the work in front of me. The textbook was long and thick and my eyes were already getting tired just looking at it.

That's when my phone started ringing. Loud and unhinged the ringtone's melody played out as I frantically searched my jacket pocket for it. More and more people were now turning to stare at me. Of course this stuff always happens to me.

"What do you want?", I hissed into the speaker when I finally picked it up.

"Yo, girl, what are you doing?", Evie's voice sounded out cheerfully over the line.

"I'm doing homework at the library and now everyone's looking at me for being noisy. What do you want?", I tried to keep my voice down.

"You've been doing that for days", she yawned, "Ugh, you're boring."

"You really just called me to tell me that?", I rolled my eyes.

"No, actually I called to tell you that I set you up on a blind date", her tone changed back to friendly.

"WHAT?!", I couldn't help the screech that escaped me and heads turned in my direction again.

"Yo, keep it down", someone complained from another table.

"Sorry", I mumbled before whisper-yelling at Evie again, "What the fuck do you mean you set me up on a blind date?"

"Exactly what I just said", she remarked impatiently, "Well, it's not quite a blind date per se."

"What have you done?", I already dreaded what she was going to tell me next.

"Hmm... Well, I'm going out with this guy and he's got a friend that he's already made plans with, so if I bring you, everything's alright", I could feel her smirking through the phone.

"Oh hell no", I replied, shaking my head vigorously.

"Aw, please, Char. Pretty please?", she whined and knew I couldn't say no.

"Fine", I gave in with a deep sigh, "But you owe me!"

Much to everyone's relief, I started packing up my stuff as soon as I hung up the phone. I could practically hear people thanking me as soon as I left the library.

Somehow I got ready for the date just in time, throwing on some random skirt and a sweater and... Well, that's about it. I had no help from Evie, as she was already at the mall we were meeting at, so my hair was just in its usually, not curly not straight state.

The shopping mall wasn't far from campus, so I walked. In New York, you come to learn fairly quickly, almost everything's in walking distance and everything that isn't you just hop on the subway for. So in a matter of minutes I got to the main entrance.

It didn't take long to spot Evie with her bright ginger hair, looking gorgeous as ever. Honestly, with her looks and height she could be a model. Next to her stood a pretty good-looking guy that she was immersed in conversation with.

As I drew closer, I figured the guy with his back towards me must be my 'date'. All I could make out was his light chestnut hair and skinny jeans accentuating his- well, pretty massive- thighs. Something seemed familiar about him.

When I joined the group greeting them and the mystery guy turned around, I saw exactly why.

"W-wait, wait, wait", I waved my hands all confused, "You're the guy that- At that party- You know you-"
