You don't care

"I mean, for real, Evie", I complained to my best friend as we stood in the park, picking up trash with metal picks, "What were you thinking daring me like that?"

"Honestly", she stood up straight and put her hands on her hips, "You seemed really upset at the party and I knew it was about Taehyung. I also knew he had broken up with Lily. So I thought you should talk things out while you were drunk, so at least you would be honest with one another. How should I know that all you'd do was suck each other's faces off?"

"What do you expect if we were that hammered?", I whined, thinking back to the memory with mixed feelings.

The morning after that endless night, I had a massive hangover. I also regretted and hated myself for everything that happened. Something came over Taehyung and I and although I blushed while remembering the way he made me feel, I knew it had to be the effect of the alcohol. On the other hand I felt wildly guilty for what Jimin had to go through. The poor boy was still recovering from getting his stomach pumped, although he was back at the dorms and school.

The police warnings we received for underaged drinking got back to the school and they signed us up for a month's work of community service at the campus park. It was a bit ridiculous, as all three of us would turn twenty-one in not too much time, but we complied anyway. Jimin was exempted under doctor's orders and I was glad he was. I would've felt even more horrible knowing I landed him community service work on top of everything else.

So here we were, picking up trash at the park in the freezing cold that is winter in New York and chatting away as we did. Although Taehyung had the same job as us, I rarely saw him around. Any time I did, I would quickly escape. The thought of talking about what was going on between us made me queasy, because I simply had no idea where to start. I hadn't talked to him since that night and avoided it at all costs.

"Well, so you obviously like each other, right?", Evie called me back to reality with her question.

"Gosh, don't ask me that", I sighed in despair.

"How can you not have an answer after you guys almost had sex?!", she waved her metal pick around, "I mean you're obviously attracted to each other!"

"I guess...", I mumbled, staring down at the garbage.

"So why can't you just admit that you like him?", she got frustrated with me.

"Because that would change things", I groaned, clutching my puffy winter coat closer to my form, "And I also have no clue what's going on inside his head. I've asked him if he has feelings for me directly and he wouldn't give me a straight answer."

"That's cause he was in a relationship", she reminded me, "What you guys did in that closet though really speaks for itself."

"Does it really though?", my voice was laced with doubt, "I kind of need verbal confirmation, Evie. I can't just go based off of actions."

"Actions speak louder than words", she insisted with a smirk.

Speaking of the devil, his dark hair popped out of nowhere from behind a nearby tree as he focused on sticking his metal pick into a piece of newspaper. Evie called out and I immediately punched her arm to tell her not to, but he already turned his head to spot us.

With a small smile painting his lips, he wandered over towards us in the grass. Evie started moving further away as he came closer.

"Evie, I swear to god don't leave me here alone", I warned her under my breath.

"What are you talking about?", she put on a forced smile, "I'm just gonna let you two talk things out."

"Don't you dare", I hissed, "Get back here!"
