Dear lord.

There Elaine stood standing in the mirror, staring at her incredibly short black, skin tight dress with long legs and tall black stilettos( which screamed fuck me), her curled, long red hair( that resembled hooker hair) and crimson red lipstick that stated, "eat your heart out."

After leaving the cabin, the girls who were in cahoots, stopped off at Deena's. Once inside, they commenced operation "Darla's divas."

Ray had pleaded with Elaine all the way into the house for her to play with Elaine's makeup. Seeing no way out, Elaine sat back and let Ray "play" with her makeup. She also allowed Deena to go to work on her hair which according to Deena was "absolutely unessasary, but completely appreciated." Elaine glowed from the complement. All the while, Chrissy chatted up a storm of happenings in wolf creek, and her regular shoppers, encouraging chuckles from Elaine.

Elaine thought they were just stopping off at Darla's, having a few drinks, and talking. She definitely wasn't expecting a mini makeover.

Looking back at the woman in the mirror, Elaine hardly recognized herself. It was a wonder Deena's dress fit. It was almost like a second skin. Her makeup was heavy and tinted in a way, her eyes stood out starkly against her flushed cheeks. Her long hair cascaded around her in bright red waves.

It had been a long time since Elaine had dressed up for nothing. She felt exhilarated and carefree. Feeling confident, Elaine snickered to herself. Tonight she'd have a good time with the girls at Darla's. She'd have a few drinks, do a little dancing, maybe even get a little crazy. However, she was really looking forward to the look on David's face when he saw her in her LBD.

And yes. It was her first little black dress(LBD), complete with the whole shebang: hair, heels, and makeup. And she totally rocked it.

Now ready to roll, she hollered for the girls to get a move on. She was ready for a cocktail. Or several.

After arriving at the bar, and securing a booth, the girls met up with Mel and greeted Darla whom they ordered a round of drinks from.

Chrissy was the first to speak. "Darlin' you got some explaining to do," she stated abruptly, signaling toward Elaine.

"For sure girl" and "absolutely" we're heard from around the table.

"About what," Elaine's asked as she drew her brows together. What had she done?

"Well for starters, what do you do? Where are you from? What clothes you like. All that jazz," replied Mel.

"Oh, um," Elaine stuttered, thrown off.

"Well, I'm a book editor for the New York times. And obviously," she paused throwing up a hand, "I'm from Manhattan." The girls ooh and awed.

"What's it like," Ray asked as her eyes sparkled with wonder.

Elaine laughed as she rolled her eyes.

"It's perfect if you like busy streets, bumping into rude strangers, loud cars and trains at all hours of the night, and congested living spaces," Elaine grumbled.

"You sound like you hate it," Mel stated.

"It's just not my scene I guess. I'm just there making a living," Elaine shrugged.
