The Blood Phoenix 2: An X-Men: Days of Future Past Fanfiction

Chapter 1: Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters

(This short scene is also featured at the beginning of Blood Phoenix 3: An X-Men: Apocalypse Fanfiction. The second school scene is not.) 

'Mummy!' I heard a little girl squeal. Running towards her as best as I could with my arm in a sling, I caught her in my arms. 

'Charlene Erika Xavier! My little phoenix!'

'Only Daddy calls you that.'

'He does, but you're his little phoenix too.' I was positively beaming with joy as Charles rolled up in his wheelchair. 'Charles.' I sat on his lap and kissed him. There was a visible 'Ewww!' from Charlene before we released and I stood up. Straightening my sling, I got into the car that one of the Army men was driving and we drove back to the mansion, ready to continue our life together.

Westchester, 1970.

'Macy, Brooke, stop running in the halls!' I yelled. The two high-school girls slowed their pace. 

'Sorry, Ms. Xavier,' Brooke said. 

'It's okay, girls!' I called back to them. Going into my office, I placed my papers down on the desk and sat in the chair. As I began grading papers from the big test this morning, I saw the glint of my wedding ring on my left hand. Putting my pen down, I twisted the band around my finger absentmindedly, remembering with fondness my wedding day with Charles. I smiled as I relished the sweet memory. Just then, I heard my husband's voice. 

'Hello, darling.'

'Charles,' I said softly, a smile playing on my lips. 

'You okay?'

'Yeah... just remembering the wedding. It was literally the best day of our lives. Wish Erik could have been there. At least Raven was.'

'Yes, she was,' Charles answered, coming around to the other side of me. I started grading the papers again. 'Big test today?'

'Yup,' I said, popping the p. 'They all did so well. Except, there's one...'

'What do you mean?'

'Macy was doing so well in her studies last year, but now she's falling behind. I don't know why.'

'If you were to ask...'

'Yeah. That's what I'm thinking. I'm kind of worried. I know her older brother's going to Vietnam in a week, that's what worries me. I'm gonna go ask.' I was about to leave, but Charles spoke. 

'Adelaide.'

'What is it?'

'I got news from Alex. He's been drafted into the war.'
