Chapter 16- Learning

"So, we were dragged off on this quest," began Nia. "But what is it all for? What is our goal?"

The purpose of this quest is to renew the light. You have until the new moon, when the light will run out. If it isn't renewed by then, darkness will take over this world and all the other worlds that are good. That is what happened to the Land of Darkness. If you do not succeed it will not be the only dark world. It will simply be one of many like it.

Siluetta put her hand over her mouth to help from gasping. They couldn't let their world become like the Land of Darkness. They had to succeed.

"But why us?" this time it was Isaac asking. "Why are we the ones who have to save the light?"

You are the seven friends who were prophesied before the beginning of time. Then, it was known, that one day, the light would have to be renewed. Now that day is drawing near, and you are the only ones who can renew the light.

Siluetta could tell that Isaac was not completely satisfied by this answer, and no wonder he wasn't. She had been left wondering why they were the seven friends.

"But what," this time Edwin was speaking. "Is the story with you? Why were you in my family? And why me instead of one of my friends?"

Once upon a time each of your ancestors had a book like me, to lead them to the Secret Glade, where the light could be renewed. There would have been no need for the seven friends to be picked up one by one on the way. But either your ancestors lost their book, or cast it aside, all except your ancestors, Edwin. That is why you were the only one with a book, and also why this quest wasn't as simple as it was meant to be.

The words faded and new words took their place. I think you now know all you need to know. It is now time to move on.

As if on cue, guards jumped out from the shadows. Quickly they started towards the seven friends.

Izelda Spinthistle was there. "Prisoners!" she shrieked. "Did you really think you had escaped me? Now you will be locked up forever!"

Isaac's father was there. "Son!" he thundered. "Why did you run away? You must return, and fulfill your destiny as the Dark King!"The seven friends jumped up and began to run.
