Matt never changed how he treated me. To him, I am a guy and always have been. Even when he saw some old photos in my house, this is how it should be. This is what free feels like. Free from judgement.
It turns out Matt had never come out to anyone apart from his family. People used to tease him about it in secondary school, even though he wasn't out. The fear of being abandoned had built up. He was terrified of telling me too.
It turns out we aren't that different.
We spent half term meeting up at each other's houses. I met his mum, and he met my family. Everything was perfect. This was the fresh start I had always wanted.
