-"I-I thought you were dead?" I choked through the cool, crisp Tennessee air. Aaron's gaze was hard - demanding. My inner thoughts concluded that Aaron wasn't going to hurt me this time, maybe he was just trying to help.

-"Your beloved didn't shoot my heart. I survived with two new scars." Aaron explained as he pulled me to my feet, "What are you doing here?" I dared to ask.

-"I've been watching you, Elizabeth. Something told me to keep you safe while Zak and Nick are at war."

-"But why?"

-"Enough with the questions! I have to get you to safety!" Aaron exclaimed as he tugged me along with him.

-"No! I want to get to Zak!"

-"He's not even in this state! Now get on that horse and ride back to where you came from!" Aaron said as he picked me up and threw me over the horse's back.

-"Take me to Zak." I demanded as I pulled the small un-loaded pistol from my belt holster to ignite fear in Aaron's eyes, "I know you know where Zak and Nick are. Take me to them, and I won't take my revenge out on you for taking my innocence." I threatened as I cocked the gun. Aaron nodded as he fetched his horse, "Follow me." He whispered through the darkness as we both rode through the great Tennessee woodlands.

As dusk rose, our horses carried us to the Peach State of Georgia, as rumor has it, a surprise attack was going to be playing on today.

-"Aaron?" I asked as I turned around in my saddle.

-"We're close. I'm on the lookout."

-"Lookout for what?" I asked, confused before action answered my question.

Gunshots filled the air, taking the lives of our horses. It was a sad sight for my witnessing.

-"Aaron!" I desperately cried out as he was my only protection.

-"You gotta gun! Fight!" Aaron yelled as he fought off three soldiers who were the enemy. I didn't know how to load the rifle, I only knew briefly how to load the pistol. I missed almost every shot I made towards the soldiers while my legs carried me quickly through the brush.

I then heard shots from the opposing side. Out of fear I fell to the ground and covered myself, holding my arms up in surrender.

-"Wait! He's one of us!" I heard Nick's peaceful voice yell to his soldiers, "Hold fire!" I then heard Zak yell as I felt his and Nick's presence walk towards me.

-"Are you okay man?" Nick said as he realized that I wasn't a man, "Elizabeth?" Nick asked, shocked as Zak turned me around to face him, "What are you doing?!" Zak asked, outraged, "You're so stupid Elizabeth!" Zak yelled as he pulled me into his chest, removing my Confederate cap from my head, letting my hair flow over my shoulders.

He pulled my face to his with his palms, placing a rough kiss on my scared lips.

-"You're so stupid!" Zak said out of happiness and shock.

-"I did it for you." I cried as Zak's grip tensed around my shoulders.

-"I hate to interrupt your embrace, but we better get out of the open." Nick coughed.

Zak held me behind him as we slowly backed ourselves closer to the camp. Nick took a shooting position as Aaron came charging through the brush to safety.

-"Don't shoot," Zak demanded with a tone of anger at Aaron's appearance, "Even though I should." Zak continued as he walked towards Aaron.

-"Don't." Nick said as he grabbed Zak's shoulder.

-"I deserve to die, I know. I brought you Elizabeth after I found her snooping around in the woods of Tennessee! It's not my fault your beloved doesn't listen!" Aaron defended as Zak turned his gaze on me, knowing how much I disappointed him in disobeying his order to go back to Arizona.

-"Just don't get near her." Zak demanded as his gaze at Aaron was cold and hard.

The silence in the air erupted into a surprise range of gunfire.

-"Elizabeth! Get down!" Zak yelled as he pushed me to the ground behind a tree and grabbing his loaded rifle. Aaron took action as he ran towards the firing soldiers, easily taking a bullet. "We gotta go get him!" Zak said as Nick stood by his side, both of them loading their rifles. Nick stepped in along with their side of soldiers as they shot off the small surprise posse. Aaron's painful moans and screams shattered my nerves.

Even though I hated the man, I appreciated that he brought me to Zak and kept my life safe until then. Zak's moans and screams joined with Aaron's as one final shot was heard - the shot that pierced Zak in the abdomen. I gasped as I ran onto the battle ground, taking Zak in my arms as I gently lay him on his back, "You're going to be okay!" I assured as I removed the sweat beaded on his forehead with my thumb. Zak reached his left hand up to wipe away the tears from my cheeks.

-"I love you Zak." I said as I kissed his lips, rewarding him for his heroic actions.

-"You're so stupid!" I joked as he knew I wasn't serious.

-"That's why we're perfect for each other - we're both stupid." Zak half smiled before Nick and I carried him to a medical tent.
