The bell rings, signaling for class to end. "All right, I want to see those papers on my desk by Thursday." Mr. Moore reminded the class. I left the classroom and toward my other class. I was halfway to class before Jack bumped into me. "Woah sorry, Ella, I didn't see you there." Jack started to stare at the brown carpet. "Hey, I'm okay." I shrugged it off.
"I was, um, meaning to ask you something." Jack started to sweat. I could tell, but he was still super cute when he was nervous. I really wish he liked me. But he doesn't act like that toward me. It's actually really annoying. "Yeah, could you hurry up, I don't want to be late for class." I really hated saying that to Jack, but, my teacher warned me the next time I'm late to class for any reason at all, he'll give me a detention slip.
"Oh, right, o-ok," Jack stammered. "I-I, I'll tell you later." And Jack pushed pass me. Before I knew it, Jack was halfway down the hallway. I sighed, seriously, what does this guy wanting to ask me?•••
I enter into the newspaper room. Jack is there waiting for me. "Hey, Ella, what I was wanting to ask you in the hallway was," Jack pauses. "was." He can't spit it out. "Jack, fine, if you aren't going to spit out what you have to say, then I'll say what I've been meaning to tell you since day one." Jack stopped staring at the floor and met my eyes. "I-I really like you, Jack. As in like you like you. I just hope you like me back, or if not, that we could still be friends." Jack didn't say anything.
He just looked at me in shock. "Ella, I like you too, as in like you like you." I smiled. "Then why didn't you tell me?" I asked. "Beacause I thought that you wouldn't like me back, I was scared to tell you about my feelings toward you. I like you, Ella Heck, I've like you since day one." Jack started to grasp my hand, but genlty, not like he were afraid that I would disepear at any given moment.
"Um, hello love birds, shouldn't we be getting back to writing?" A voice from behind asked us. It broke our little moment together. I turned around to be met face-to-face with, Selina. "Oh, right we should be going back to writing." I answered. "Yeah." Jack chimmed in. "All right you love birds." And Selina went back to minding her own business.
"Ella, I was wondering if you could write an article with me for the school Christmas play." Jack asked. "Um, sure." I smiled. "Oh goodie!" A voice from behind me exclaimed. I whipped around to meet Kendal face-to-face.
"Woah." I jumped back, startled by being so close to Kendal. "Sorry, I tend to sneek behind people and listen into their conversation. "Creepy much?" Jack asked. "Hey, it's a habit ok!" Kendal exclaimed, putting her tiny hands onto her hips. "Kendal, Kendal, it's ok. Why did you say 'oh goodie!' when we were talking about the Christmas play?" I asked.
"Because I was going to write about it, but now we can be a trio and write about it from three different peoples perspectives. Isn't that great!" Kendal exclaimed. And here I thought Jack and I would have a romantic, movie worthy, scene where we hamg out together on weekends and spend time together getting to know each other better. Woah, I just scared myself.
I'm starting to care about gushy, lovey movie nights when before, I hated high school. Charlie was right, she has changed me.
For a moment or two it was just awkward silence, then I heard screaming from down the hall. Wow, does Charlie really have to scream?
