"Where do I open up?" It was about nine o'clock that evening and Loki and I had just sat down in the living room to start reading the Bible. The only book he had read was Ephesians so far and I wanted him to at least get through one of the Gospels before tomorrow. I picked Mark simply because it was short and to the point.

"Find Mark. It's towards the back." I responded flipping through my own Bible. Mine was different than Loki's shiny, new, black one. Mine was old. The cover was leather with a wrap around cord to keep it closed. The pages were brown around the edges from being handled so much. The bookmarks I had in it were just a bunch of little odds and ends but to me they all had value. It was mostly currency from my travels with dad. Old bills, newer bills, rare bills, all could be found in my Bible. Along with a few letters I keep safe and sound, and a note in the front from my dad. The Bible was never translated to Galifreyan so mine is in plain English. But that's alright. There's plenty of people who never got one so I'm grateful.

"Found it." He said, breaking me from my thoughts. He set the book down on his knees and waited for my instruction.

"Alright cool. So do you wanna flip flop chapters or how do you want to break up the reading?" He shrugged.

"I can read the whole thing if you wish. You sound a bit hoarse." Wow. I thought. For being called the god of lies he's pretty blunt. I mean it was totally true. Talking through the hot, dusty bleeze made my throat a bit sore. But still, odd to think I couldn't read perfectly fine. However, I decided to lay down my pride and let him take over.

"Yeah alright. Go ahead." I sat back and he began to read. He read the intro and continued down to verse nine of the first chapter.

"In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when He came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven 'You are my son... with you I am well pleased." He paused, staring at the last sentence for a moment in sadness before he continued.

He read smoothly through all the miracles and parables, through the teachings and prophecies. I must admit I almost fell asleep a few times. Loki has such a smooth and soothing voice, unlike my dad who's super high energy and talks with enthusiasm most of the time. But despite the sleepiness, and Loki's voice, we got to chapter fifteen, where Jesus is brought to the ruler, Pilot, to be put to death.

"And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor's headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion. And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. And they began to salute him, 'Hail, King of the Jews!' And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him."

After more description of what was done to poor Jesus he got to the part where Jesus actually died.

"And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”

Then Loki stopped for another moment, as if it was just sinking in for him, the gravity of Jesus's obedience. Loki seemed to really put himself in the story and read it as if he was actually there.

He continued narrating the story, telling of Jesus's burial in a fresh tomb of rock and being sealed inside. Three long days went by for his friends, for they thought everything was over. On the third day, a group of women went with jars of spices to dress his body with and found something unexpected. The stone seal to the tomb had been pushed aside. Instead of Roman soldiers there sat angels at the entrance; there to inform the women that thier friend had indeed risen from the dead!

Jesus, after having conquered death, went to reveal himself to his friends, he even ate diner with them to prove he was real. Then not long after, he gave them instructions to keep spreading the good news and ascended into heaven until He returnes once again.

"-And they went out and preached everywhere while the lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs." Loki finished with a small satisfied smile on his face. "Incredible."

"Yeah. It sure is." I breathed. "Any questions?"

He furrowed his eyebrows in thought before opening his mouth again. "Why? Why was the whole thing nessecery? If God is so great in power and infinite in might, why would he go through the trouble of sending His son down to live as a human, suffer as a human, and die as a human when he could have simply destroyed Satan entirely?" Ah, an age old question indeed.

"Well, that question goes back to the Garden of Eden. In the begining of the universe, God created the Earth in 6 days. First He made the Earth itself, then made the animals one by one. And at the end, He made mankind in His image. The man was named Adam, and the woman, Eve. And God gave them authority over the whole of creation, under one condition. That they refrain from eating fruit from the Tree of knowledge of Good and Evil.

"But Lucifer decided to meddle with God's creation. He disguised himself as a serpant and tempted Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. She did, and gave it to Adam as well. And that's when sin entered the world.

Mankind took the authority that God gave them over creation, and handed it over to Lucifer. And just as the world was fallen through man, it had to be redeemed through man. And that's why God the son came down as a baby; so he could live a perfect human life and live the way humans were designed to live. And when he died as a human, Satan had nothing on him. Authority was given back to God's people through the redemption of humanity. And that was the point of Jesus." I finished. The Garden was one of my favorite things to study in my free time. There's really a lot to take in that most people usually overlook at first glance.

Loki pondered what I said, seemingly unaffected by the late hour. I however, was trying my best to stay awake. It's been a long day for sure and since it started so early, that made it all the longer. "I suppose that makes sense." He said at last.

"It makes perfect sense. And it'll make even more sense once you know more."

"I can only imagine." He replied. "I assume my current knowledge is the equivalent of the tip of an iceberg." He took a moment to look me over. "But I can see you're exhausted. My questions can wait." At that he closed his Bible.

I must admit, I was relieved. "Yeah. It's a little late for me." I admit. "But hey, before you go off to bed, I've got something for you." I sprung up and strode to the bookcase sitting on the side of the room. I pulled one of the brown leather books wich sat at eye level on the shelf. I had many blank books available at my disposal. Loki had gotten up with me, currious as to what I was referring.

"Here." I handed it to him. He took it in his hands and opened it up to reveal the blank pages. "It's for you to document your life with God. You won't remember everything in the long term and you'll enjoy getting to look back over your life and see how much you grow." He locked his eyes with mine. They had a warmth to them, a drastic contrast from the cold stares of yesterday. He looked fresh, and alive, and new.

He knodded. "Thank you. I'll start tonight."

I smiled. "Awesome. You'll be glad you did." I then started walking to my bedroom.

I turned around briefly to bid him goodnight. He answered me. "Goodnight yourself." Then, after starting towards his room, he turned back a second time. "And Britney?"

"Yes?"

"Thank you, for requesting me here."

"Thank you for coming."
