A/N: Basically what actually happened, but instead of Toni, it's Betty.

Jughead sat on one of the Whyte Wyrm’s bar stools. He reached into his pocket as his phone started to ring. He picked it up, even without recognizing the number,

“Hello,” he said tiredly.

“Hello, lover boy,” he hears from the other end. His heart sank, Penny Peabody, “It’s your old gal pal.”

“Penny? You picked a really bad time.”

“Oh, I heard. Riverdale, burning to the ground? It’s tragic. How about we meet up and talk about it, hmm? Your old hangout, by the docks?”

“Why the hell would I do that?” he asked, ready to hang up.

“Simple. Because if you don’t, I’ll start carving up your girlfriend’s face.” His blood turned to ice. His heart stopped.

“Betty?” he asked hoarsely.

“The question is, what should I start with?”

“Jughead,” he heard faintly from the other end, “Whatever you do, don’t come here, she will kill you. Just tell her to go to Hell, I’ll be fine.”

“Oh, shut up, Blondie, maybe I should start by ripping out your tongue. Come now, Jones, and alone. It’ll just be me and Ponytail here. But remember, I don’t like to be kept waiting, I might just get bored.”

He heard Penny hang up and he shakily brought the phone away from his ear. He pounded his fists on the bar.

“Shit!” he yelled. A few Serpents turned to look at him. He always told Betty he would protect her, but time and time again he failed to do so and she ended up in danger anyway.

He ran out of the bar, praying and hoping that he would be fast enough.

He walked slowly in the campfire’s direction.

“Hiya, Jones,” she chuckled when she saw him coming. He saw Betty looking blankly at the fire, her arms and legs tied up tightly. She turned her head to look at him, fear plastered all over her face.

“Betty, are you okay?” Betty didn’t answer him. She just whispered,

“Jughead, she’s not alone.”

He heard some noises come from the forest and clicked open his tiny switchblade.

Malachai, the leader of the Ghoulies walked out with a very dangerous looking bat.

“Surprise!” he laughed psychotically.

“You said it was just going to be the two of us.”

“You’re so naive. I never go anywhere without back-up any more, not after what you did to me. Does your little girlfriend know about that, by the way?” She turned to Betty, “Your boy-toy over here, he and his little friends dragged me out to Greendale. Then, they threatened to kill me and then, with that very knife,” she pointed to Jughead’s switchblade, “He carved out a chunk of my arm.”

Betty looked unsurprised and uninterested.

“Oh, you did know! And you’re still with him? Interesting. Just remember, Ponytail, if he can hurt me, if a guy is so desperate for revenge that he would cut a lady, then he can hurt you too. But hey, who am I to judge your relationship?”

“I would never hurt Betty,” Jughead said with his teeth clenched.

“Is that so? What if she betrayed the Serpents in some way? Hmm? Or more importantly, if you would never let her get hurt, why is she here? At my mercy?”

Jughead knew she was right. He gave Betty an apologetic look and begged with his eyes for her to forgive him. She gave him the smallest of smiles, her lips barely curving upward, and nodded slightly.

“But enough about that, I brought you here to talk, to all of us.”

“There’s nothing to talk about. I’m taking Betty and we’re leaving,” he said with a lot more courage than he felt.

“Not so fast,” Malachai chuckled, “I’ve been waiting to see you again for a long time.” He brought out a taser from one of his pockets and flashed it on once menacingly.

“Get back, you hobgoblin!” They heard from behind them. Malachai, Penny, and a few of the Ghoulies turned around quickly to see Cheryl there, with her bow and an arrow pointing directly at Malachai’s face.

“You really thought I was so naive, that I would trust you? I brought back-up too. Like I said before, I’m taking Betty, and we’re leaving.”

“Untie her, you Serpent hag,” Cheryl spat at Penny, directing her arrow right between her eyes. Penny scoffed,

“Take her, then. But remember, when all your friends are dead, I tried giving you a chance.” She nodded in Malachai’s direction and he started cutting open Betty’s restraints, with as much force as he could muster. She cried out when he ‘accidentally’ let his knife scrape her delicate skin. Jughead stepped forward menacingly.

“Oops,” Malachai said. When Betty was free, she ran over to Jughead, and he stepped protectively in front of her.

“Why do you keep coming back? What do you want?”

“The Southside,” she responded without hesitation, “There’s money to be made here in ‘The Town With Pep,’ if you’re not afraid of getting your hands dirty, which I am not.”

“So you’re partnering with the Ghoulies to sell drugs on the Southside?”

“Bingo! So here’s the offer I want you to take back to your dad and your ‘tribe.’ The Serpents ship out tonight, or it’s a showdown with the Ghoulies at Pickens Park at dawn.” Jughead glared at her and she was all smiles, “I’m fine either way.”

Jughead turned around angrily and left, Cheryl and Betty on his heels as they left that godforsaken place.
