A/N: Super short and completely canon.
Jughead awkwardly rang the doorbell. He rocked back and forth on his feet as he waited for the door to open. He considered whether or not it was a mistake to come here today. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the door opened, and a very tense-looking blonde stood in front of him. He was glad, however, to see that her shoulders relaxed visibly as she saw him. He wondered if it was because she was happy to see him or if she was expecting something worse.
“Jughead? What are you doing here?” Betty asked.
“I just thought I’d walk you to school.”
“Oh, ok, I’ll get my stuff, you can come in.”
She still didn’t sound thrilled about him being there but at least she didn’t turn him away. Alice Cooper was sitting very stiffly at the kitchen table and barely looked at him as he walked in. He stood in the hall as Betty gathered her backpack, tightened her iconic ponytail, and headed towards him. She gave him a small smile, very small, before walking out the door and gesturing for him to close the door behind him. She clutched her umbrella tightly with both hands. Even though they had been taking a break before last night, his hand still felt empty without her’s in it. He decided to break the ice.
“So, how are you?”
“Um, fine.”
“Really? You know you can tell me if you’re not okay. It’s just, I thought we had this really nice night, and then you hung up on me and I kind of got nervous.”
She gave no indication that she had heard him, even though he knew that she had.
“Maybe you felt like we were moving too fast? Or maybe...” He took a deep breath,
“Maybe it wasn’t, I don’t know, enjoyable?” He trailed off, knowing he sounded ridiculous and desperate. At this, however, she turned to him, eyes wide.
“Oh my god, no. Jughead, no. Last night was...” She licked her lips as she remembered last night’s events. His breath warm on her face, his fingers soft on her skin.
“Amazing, so amazing, it’s just, a lot of drama happened when I came home.” He relaxed and smiled at her, he had greatly enjoyed last night as well.
“Let me guess, Chic-centric?” Her shoulders tensed up again.
“It’ll be fine,” she said, “everything will be fine.” She took one hand off the umbrella and interlocked their fingers. He gave her a reassuring squeeze and they walked, hand-in-hand, to school, and everything went back to normal.
