Way faster than Virgil would've been able to do it, Roman declares he's finished. Virgil holds up his hands to look at the end result. A small smile pulling up his lips.
"Careful, they're not dry yet." Roman warns him. Virgil looks back up at him and puts his hands down again. Fingers spread.
"You like it?" Roman beams enthusiastically. Virgil debates between telling the truth and pretending to be unbothered.
"Love them." He admits in the end. Romans smile widens and his dimple appears while his golden brown eyes shine proud.
"Told you." He replies smug. Virgil scoffs, but he can't seem to get the smile off his face anymore. Suddenly he feels like admitting his real feelings to this all.
"You do it a lot better than I ever did." He admits softly. Throwing out the bait for Roman to react.
"You've painted your nails before?" His best friend wonders pleasantly surprised. Virgil hums.
"I, uh, tried out some things after watching too much of Rupaul's drag race." He replies without saying too many details.
"Oh yeah, we've all been there." Roman snickers. Holding up the nail polish to proof it. Virgil bites down on his bottom lip. Preparing himself to admit something out loud he barely dared admit to himself.
"I'm, uh, better at makeup than nail polish." He speaks up in a whisper. Barely audible. Roman has to lean closer to even hear it, but when he does he shoots upright again with an excited smile. He didn't expect it, but that only makes it even cooler to him.
"You have to do my makeup!" He declares. Virgil's eyes widen in horror. This is not what he expected. He shakes his head in refusal.
"No, no, I- I can't." He starts backing out. He should not have started this conversation.
"You just said you can. Come one, nice nails for a nice face." Roman grins encouragingly.
"You've already got a nice face." Virgil mumbles in response. He didn't mean it as a compliment, but Roman took it as one anyway.
"Why thank you, Virge." He winks. The younger man scoffs as he looks away.
"Seriously though. Do you have makeup at your place? I think Remus might have some if you don't." The older of the two start thinking out loud. Virgil starts to feel small. This is going all wrong. He doesn't want to do these things. He doesn't want to admit he likes it or he's even remotely good at it. Roman looks at him expectantly.
"N-no, I just have-" He points at his eye shadow weakly. Roman hums as he thinks about it for a second.
"Remus probably only has eye shadow as well." He figures. Virgil lets out a relieved sigh.
"Guess we won't be able to do it then." He smiles softly. Roman blinks at him. He notices Virgil is on edge about the whole thing, but he can't just let this go. What if he'll never get such an opportunity again? What if Virgil will bury his skills deep within his walls again if he doesn't somehow encourages him to keep following that passion?
"I've got an idea." He speaks up. Virgil looks unsure. "Hold on a second as I make sure I'm actually right." Roman holds up his index finger as he grabs his phone and starts calling someone. Maybe Roman has lost his mind. The nail polish fumes must've raised to his head. Virgil thinks grim to himself.
"Hey, Remy? It's Roman." The older man starts the conversation. Virgil looks confused at his choice of person to call.
"Quick question: Do you still have all your makeup and could I maybe borrow it?" Roman wonders.
"Marvelous, I'll be there in a few." He promises before hanging up the phone again. Virgil looks at him with big eyes.
"Remy has makeup?" He looks surprised. Roman hums.
"Oh yeah, he's great at it." He nods. Somehow the idea of someone like Remy putting on dashing makeup, makes Virgil feel just that tiny bit better about himself.
"Ready to go? I think your nails are dry by now, but be careful just in case." Roman stands up to put his shoes on.
"We're going to his place?" Virgil questions. Roman nods affirmative.
"To... do your makeup?" The younger man adds hesitant.
"Oh yeah." Roman smirks excited.
"You don't even know if I'm good at it." Virgil comments baffled.
"I trust you." Roman shrugs. Handing Virgil his shoes.
"You're going to look like a clown." Virgil warns. Putting on his shoes as well. Careful to not hit his nails.
"I trust you." Roman simply repeats as he grabs his car keys.
Remy and Emile live just out of town together. Virgil's been there once before for Emile's birthday a few days ago.
"We'll be back in a few!" Roman calls in the hallway to Patton and Logan.
"Okay, kiddo." Patton calls back. Virgil only grows more nervous the closer they get to Remy and Emile's place.
"You'll be fine." Roman assures him as they get out and walk up to the door. Before Roman can even ring the doorbell, Remy already opens the door. Leaning against the doorpost with crossed arms. Dressed in all black including his leather jacket he somehow still wears. Sunglasses on the bridge of his nose.
"Why do you need my makeup?" He wonders.
"So Virgil can make me a pretty princes." Roman jokes. Virgil looks away awkwardly when Remy smirks.
"You good?" He asks the younger brunet. Virgil shrugs.
"Not too bad." He mutters. Remy hums approving before letting them in.
"What do you say we make it a little competition?" He suggests when Roman and Virgil take off their shoes.
"I'd say it wouldn't be fair in the slightest." Virgil comments. Starting to get a little annoyed with himself for getting himself in this mess.
"Just for fun then." Remy replies.
"I do Emile. You do Roman." He adds. Virgil lets out a sigh.
"Okay." He gives in.
"I already brought everything downstairs. We've got better lighting in the living room." Remy explains when he walks towards the open door that leads to said living room. Emile waiting at the doorpost.
"Hey guys." He smiles welcoming.
"Hey, Em." Roman waves with a smile.
"Hi." Virgil shoots him a quick smile. Remy walks up to his boyfriend and gives him a quick kiss.
"Sneaky, Picani." He whispers at the pink haired man. Virgil looks confused until he notices the mistletoe hanging above the door. When Roman wants to follow the two men inside Remy stops him. Causing Virgil to almost walk against his best friend ungracefully.
"Brings a lot of bad luck if you walk underneath mistletoe unless you kiss someone." He smirks. Pointing up at the little branch.
"I'm pretty sure that's not a thing." Roman glares at his college friend. Remy has been suspecting Roman's got feelings for Virgil for a while now and he's anything but subtle about it.
"Are you really willing to risk it though?" His friend smirks teasingly. Roman rolls his eyes. This is low, even for Remy. Virgil listens to the conversation anxiously. What is Remy planning? Why does he do this? Roman then turns around to look at him. Virgil's eyes widen when he sees the hesitation in Roman's eyes. He's not actually considering it, is he? Virgil doesn't think he'd be able to handle a meaningless kiss from the man who stole his heart. Again. He's strong, but not that strong.
"Sorry." Roman mutters before pecking his cheek. A mix between relief and disappointment washes over the younger man. Roman turns back around before Virgil can see his reaction. Which is probably for the best because that means Roman can't see the blush on his face either. Virgil pulls up the hood of his hoodie to hide it from Remy and Emile as well.
"Not cool." Roman mutters to Remy when he passes his peer. Quiet enough so Virgil wouldn't hear. Remy just smirks as he shrugs.
"Okay so this is what I've got." Remy goes back to the reason they're here.
"You can use whatever, just try not to blend anything." He adds as he shows Virgil his many eye shadow pallets, makeup brushes, highlighters, foundations, mirrors, eyeliners, lipsticks and more.
"Wow." Virgil lets out before realizing it. His original excitement towards makeup slowly coming back when he already starts to see patterns in his head. He looks back up at Roman's face to determine what route he's going to take.
"Let's say half an hour to an hour each?" Remy suggests. Patting one of the bar stools turned to the window. Emile goes to sit on it with an excited smile.
"Okay." Virgil nods. That should be enough he thinks to himself. Roman sits down on the other bar stool next to Emile.
"Ready?" Emile wonders. Phone in his hand to time. Both Virgil and Remy nod.
"GO!" Emile announces. Virgil grabs Roman's hand and tries some of Remy's foundation colors to see which one fits him best.
"Is it really going to take that long?" Roman asks surprised when he looks at what Virgil is doing.
"Probably." The younger man replies. Already concentrating on the first steps of his plan. It's been almost a year since he last did a full face of makeup and he's a little rusty. He decides to stand with his back towards Remy and Emile to not see what the other man is doing. Not sure he'd be able to handle to comparison.
"Can you make a fishy face?" Virgil asks while showing what he means. Roman sucks in his cheeks as he pouts his lips. Making him look like a fish. Virgil applies some highlighter on his cheeks. He doesn't over do it though. Roman already has strong cheekbones so he doesn't need to accent it too much.
"I've probably never seen you so serious before." Roman snickers when Virgil nods it's okay again. The younger man quirks an unimpressed eyebrow when he grabs one of the pallets.
"Close your eyes?" Virgil asks.
"Very funny." Roman smirks.
"No, really, Ro. Close your eyes." Virgil chuckles at the misunderstanding. Holding up the eye shadow to let him know what he means.
"Oh." Roman looks dumbfound before closing his eyes with an amused grin.
"Don't startle." He warns as he touches the brush on his eyelid gently. It takes him longer than he expected, but he's too determined to make it work instead of choosing a potential easier look.
"Almost at an hour." Emile warns.
"Oh damn." Remy reacts surprised. Virgil smiles softly to himself. At least he's not the only one who misjudged the time he needs. Virgil looks at the several lipstick shades until he finds the perfect one.
"Open your mouth a little." He orders Roman gently while carefully holding his chin. Roman listens without uttering a word and Virgil slowly puts on the lipstick with a lot of concentration. This is probably the hardest part because he's never had to do someone else's lipstick before.
"Okay. I think I'm done." He steps back when he's finished to look over what he's created. Remy looks up from his own work.
"Impressive." He hums approving before finishing up Emile's look as well.
"Okay, I'm done as well." He then steps back so they can both look at the two men whose faces they've painted. Virgil's eyes widen when he sees what Remy has done. He created some kind of galaxy look. Experimenting with purple, different shades of blue, pink and white to give it a really starry experience.
"That's so cool." Virgil comments when he looks closer at Emile who grins proud of his boyfriend.
"Oh wow that is cool." Roman agrees when he sees it too.
"Yours is cute!" Emile reacts when he sees Roman's face. Remy grabs two mirrors and hands it to their guinea pigs so they can see their look for themselves. Roman's eyes widen when he sees himself before he starts moving in al directions to really see every inch of his face. Virgil munches down on his bottom lip as he anxiously awaits his reacts. Roman snickers softly under his breath.
"Well, I did say I wanted to look like a pretty princess." He comments when he smirks up at Virgil before posing in the mirror again. Virgil chose to go mainly for gold and red colors. Creating a small golden crown on his eyelids, surrounded with a blended dark red and finished with some silver white stones. A similar deep red lipstick to go along with it.
"Yeah, it, uh, reminded me of your nickname." Virgil admits softly.
"Princey." Roman's smile grows when he immediately knows what Virgil means. "I love it." He grins up at Virgil.
"Yeah?" Virgil looks unsure. Scared Roman is just saying it to not hurt his feelings.
"Definitely." Roman smiles back into the mirror. "Emile get in here. I need a picture." He turns his head to the man beside him.
"Already on it." The pink haired man giggles and Virgil notices how he takes a selfie with Remy. They're an unlikely, but very cute couple, he decides. Emile then jumps off the stool to stand next to Roman who's holding up his phone. They take pictures of several poses. Ones where they're looking fierce and ones where they're smiling.
"Come here." Roman gestures at Virgil and Remy to come in the picture as well. Remy stands behind Emile on the stool so he's taller while Virgil crouches a bit in front of Roman so they can all fit in the frame."So, Virgil, when did you learn this?" Remy wonders when they're sitting on their couch.
"Uh, I kind of stole mom's makeup when I was seventeen and started to buy some for myself the more I experimented." He admits. It still feels weird to talk so openly about it. It's weird to relate with another man about this stuff. It's odd to see Roman with his makeup look. But.. It's also kind of nice. Remy hums.
"You're really good. How come you don't have any makeup here?" He wonders.
"See, I was wondering the exact same thing." Roman reacts. Virgil feels his cheeks heat up under their gazes. He shrugs.
"I just- I didn't want people to know." He admits softly.
"Well, that's just ridiculous." Roman calls out. Virgil looks down at his feet.
"Why didn't you want people to know, Virgil?" Emile asks him with a gentle voice. Virgil looks up at the man who's the same age as him. He debates his answer for a while. Not wanting to insult Remy either.
"I, uh, I figured it was stupid. I thought- I don't know, I guess I thought people would think I wanted to be a girl or something." He replies with another shrug. He's already been called gay accusingly a couple of times when he wasn't acting masculine enough. He just doesn't need to add oil on the fire.
"Screw those people." Roman reacts heated. "They're just small minded idiots." He adds. Virgil smiles grateful up at him.
"I mean honestly. Even books and movies these days are being labeled under sexist names. Chick flicks. I'm no chick." Roman keeps going. Rolling his eyes excessively. Virgil snickers softly.
"Don't ever stop doing something you love or are good at just because you're scared of what other people might say. That's no way of living." Remy speaks up before taking a sip of his iced coffee.
"And you really are good at it." Emile adds.
"Thank you." Virgil smiles awkwardly. Grateful, but unsure how to handle compliments. They stay seated for a few more minutes before Roman announces they should probably head back home.
"Thanks again, Remy." He hugs the smaller man before also hugging Emile.
"Wait, Roman, you've still got your makeup on." Virgil warns him before he can go out on the street like that.
"Yeah, I know." Roman replies.
"Don't you want to take it off first?" Virgil frowns softly.
"What? Are you insane? I look amazing. No way I'm already going to take it off." Roman reacts offended. Virgil holds up his hands in defense.
"Okay, you do you." He replies with crooked smile. "Bye guys." He adds with a wave to Remy and Emile.
"Merry Christmas if we don't see you anymore before that!" Emile calls when they put on their shoes again in the hallway.
"You too!" Roman calls back. "Ready?" He asks Virgil who nods in responds and stands up to go outside and into his car.
"You really like it?" He asks again when it's just the two of them.
"Virge, I love it. I wish I could walk around like this everyday." Roman looks at him sincere before focusing on the road again. Virgil smirks softly to himself as he looks outside the window. When they get back home, Roman immediately rushes to the common room to show Patton and Logan his face.
"Hey, guys! Oh wow. Roman, you look amazing." Patton looks up when they walk in. Stepping back from Logan, but Virgil noticed how he was leaning over the other man's shoulders. Logan's hand resting on Patton's arms that were wrapped around him. Nothing going on, hmm? Virgil eyes them curiously.
"Right?" Roman beams excited. "Virgil did it." He adds.
"Really?" Patton looks at him with big eyes. Virgil scratches the back of his head.
"Yeah." He admits a little shy.
"Compliments." Logan hums impressed. Virgil shoots them both a grateful smile. Roman and him sit down at the table as well.
"Something completely different though: when are you guys leaving for the holidays?" Roman wonders.
"Tomorrow." Patton replies.
"Thursday." Logan answers at the same time.
"Remus and I are also going Thursday." Roman grins amused. "I will miss you though, Pat." He adds when he looks at the younger man.
"I'll miss all of you loads as well!" Patton exclaims. You see anyone else who'd express their feelings as openly as Patton, would instantly end on Virgil's 'don't trust' list. But he knows the smaller man is genuine about it. Virgil often fears for Patton's well-being. Someday that big heart of his is going to break and he's scared it might be a way worse for the blond than it would be for anyone else.----------------------------------------------------------------------
Two very talented men. Honestly can you imagine Remy walking around with flawless makeup? I sure can.
