A/N: quick tw: mention of death/murder/captivity/severe nightmares/nudity
Roman looks around in distress. He's hiding in house he doesn't recognize. His family and friends doing the same while some people with guns are looking for them.
"Shht." He gestures at his mom behind the couch when he hears one of them near. Silent tears are streaming down her cheeks as she tries to stop herself from making any noise by biting down on her hand. He wants to get to her, but there's no way he can do that without risking getting seen. A large man with a hunting rifle walks into the room and Roman tries to crouch down in the littlest ball. The man seems to leave, but then he turns around and pulls the couch back. Revealing his mom. She tries to get away, but he holds her down with brutal force.
"Roman get out!" His mom yells as she tries to fight the man. Giving him a chance to get outside and find help. Roman looks unsure at his mom. Tears in his eyes. He's going to kill her if he doesn't quickly do something.
"Now, Roman!" She yells again. Looking at him with pleading eyes. Squaring his jaws, he rushes past the man and runs outside. A gunshot makes him duck his head before looking over his shoulder.
"Mom-" He wants to go back, but someone grabs him by the elbow. In panic he tries to get free, until he sees it's Virgil hiding in the bushes. The younger man pulls him towards him with urgency.
"Lay down. There's more of them." He whispers as he pulls Roman down in the long plants. Roman doesn't get the chance to ask about the others. He hears someone walk around them. Hopefully unaware of their position.
"Here!" An older voice yells and the man from earlier rushes outside as well. Roman grabs Virgil's hand in his. Clenching his eyes shut to not run in panic. He hears people run down the driveway before two shots are hurt followed by the sound of something heavy being dropped on the ground. He's losing everyone.
"There's someone in the bushes." He hears the older man tell the other one before their footsteps seem to surround them.
"Come out now and we won't harm you." The older man sounds. Both Virgil and Roman look scared at each other.
"If you don't come out we'll start shooting at random. You're the last one. Don't be foolish." The man who killed his mom sounds up with a deep voice. Roman's eyes widen.
"They think there's only one of us." He whispers to Virgil.
"I'm counting down to ten." The older man announces. Roman looks at Virgil. He can't risk losing him too.
"I love you." He whispers before kissing Virgil's forehead.
"Roman, no!" Virgil whisper yells. Sensing what he's planning.
"Okay! I'm coming out. Please--please don't shoot." Roman calls loud. The counting stops and Roman looks at Virgil again.
"Wait till dark and run away." He whispers before climbing out of the bushes. Away from Virgil. He's greeted with two gun barrels pointing at him.
"Smart move." The older man smirks.
"Can't we just kill him like the others?" The other man wonders.
"No, we keep our word. Otherwise we're just savages." The older man responds. He's got graying hair and a thick mustache. The other man is probably twice as big as Roman with thick black eyebrows and a beard as long as his hair coming to his belly. Roman swallows a bitter response and approaches the older man with his hands up high. They tie his hands together before taking him inside. He refrains from looking over his shoulder at Virgil. Please escape. He begs.
He knows it's only been a minute since they captured him, but somehow it feels like years. He weirdly knows Virgil managed to escape. It's the only thing keeping him sane while he watches the waterfall behind the house with the two tiny roads running alongside it day in and out. No way of escaping himself. Not without dying at least. But maybe that's better than this?
He looks up surprised at the sound of cars. The two man and their family look surprised as well.
"No word." One of the woman tell him. That's not a problem. Roman has the feeling he hasn't said a single word in over five years. Maybe he doesn't even know how to talk anymore.
"Roman!" A familiar voice sounds up. No. He can't be back. He escaped. He's safe. Roman's eyes widen when Virgil appears in a car. Someone he doesn't know behind the wheel. Roman wants to run to him, but his hands are still tied and the older man holds him back while his sons storm outside and start shooting at the car. The man behind the wheel keeps driving towards the waterfall to escape the bullets.
"We missed someone. How did that happen?" The older man realized out loud.
"You! You caused this mess!" He grabs Roman harshly as he looks angry down at him. Roman spits in his face.
"Fuck you!" He yells. The man stumbles back in disgust and Roman runs to the deck to see Virgil better.
"Roman, we're coming!" His boyfriend promises.
"Or are they?" The older man laughs evil as he presses a button. A big explosion is heard and the road along with the waterfall seem to shoot in the sky. A big gray and brown cloud preventing Roman from seeing what happens.
"You shouldn't have provoked me." The older man grins like a shark. Roman's eyes widen in horror when he sees how the car with Virgil in tries to get away from the tumbling rocks and wild water. But they're no match for the disaster and quickly get swallowed.
"Noooo!" Roman calls as he cries loud.
He shoots awake. Eyes open and looking at his empty ceiling. He knows he just had a dream. He knows it's not real. But the emotions are still there. His eyes fill up with tears and he sobs softly at the memory of losing everyone. He feels Virgil move beside him, but he's scared to look at him. The fear of him dying too fresh in his mind.
"Ro?" Virgil's tired voice sounds up and Roman's eyes glance at the younger man regardless. He's okay. He looks exhausted, but alive. For some reason that makes him cry even more and Virgil's eyes widen in worry.
"Hey, hey, what's wrong?" He asks as he crawls closer to his boyfriend and wraps him in a hug. Roman's head resting on Virgil's chest as he holds his waist tight. Scared to loose him.
"Nightmare." He mumbles as Virgil shushes him softly while stroking his arm soothingly.
"It's over now. You're awake. Non of it really happened." Virgil tries to calm him down. Roman hasn't had this bad of a nightmare since they reunited. But Virgil remembers the time he had to console the older boy at almost every sleepover they had. Roman's mom or dad would walk in from time to time and see Virgil hugging Roman to calm him down. They'd ask if everything was okay and Roman would reply with 'now it is'. His face still wet from the tears. After a while Roman calms down and tries to pull back.
"No, no, it's okay. You can stay down." Virgil assures him in a whisper. Roman shakes his head as he wipes his tears away before looking up at Virgil with hurt and desperate eyes.
"I'm so glad I didn't lose you." He whispers before leaning closer to kiss his boyfriend. Virgil kisses him back gently. Still immensely tired and his head is killing him from all the alcohol he consumed.
"You'll never lose me, Ro." He promises him softly. Resting his hand in Roman's neck as he wipes away some late tears with his thumb. Roman looks at the man he loves more than words can ever describe. He realizes it was a dream. But he actually did almost lose Virgil. First when he pushed him out and then when Virgil wanted to commit suicide. He closes his eyes as he leans into the warm and soft touch that's Virgil's hand on his cheek.
"I love you." He whispers.
"I love you too." Virgil smiles softly at him. "Are you okay, again?" He wonders then. Roman sighs.
"I will be." He replies. Not denying that it'll take some time to shake the nightmare off.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Virgil asks him softly. Roman shakes his head. He wants to forget it.
"Maybe in the morning." He reacts. His boyfriend nods understanding. Roman lays back down where he stares at the ceiling for a few moments. Scared to close his eyes again and potentially return to the nightmare.
"Ro?" Virgil asks for his attention. Roman looks at him questioningly. "Want to watch an episode of modern family to ease your mind?" The younger man offers. A soft smile tugs at the other man's lips.
"That would be nice." He agrees with a slow nod. He doesn't want to tire Virgil any more than he already is, but he has to admit distraction would be welcome right now.
"Okay." Virgil kisses his cheek before getting out of bed and blindly search for Roman's laptop in the dark room.
"Careful for your eyes." Virgil warns when he found the device and they sit upright as he starts the laptop. Roman rests his head on Virgil's shoulder. As soon as he lowered the brightness off his screen and the show starts. They decide to watch two episodes before putting the laptop back down and crawling deeper under the covers. For once Virgil curls up behind Roman as the big spoon. Holding his boyfriend close to let him know he's not going anywhere. Roman relaxes against Virgil's body heat. He kisses the other man's hand softly before trying to fall back asleep.
