On Friday afternoon, 4:59 to be exact, Crybaby was already dressed and ready. She was expecting a call from Ben at five o'clock to confirm their plans. She had been standing near the telephone, butterflies in her stomach. In about a minute, it finally rang. She waited to pick up until after the second ring to seem more casual. "Hello?" She said when she answered.
"Hey," Ben greeted.
"Hey. So, when are we doing this?" Crybaby asked.
"Uh..." Ben paused and looked out the window by his front door, "My dad hasn't left yet. I'll call you again once he leaves. Are you ready?"
"Yes, I am."
"Good. He'll be gone soon."
"I'll be waiting," Crybaby said in a sing-song tone.
"Alright, bye," Ben said.
"Bye," Crybaby said and then hung up.
Ben heard the dial tone and put the phone down, then quickly picked it up again and began dialing another number. He put the phone against his ear and waited, getting an answer on the third ring.
"Who?" A voice spoke through the phone.
"It's me," Ben spoke through gritted teeth, "Damien, where the hell are you?"
"Calm down," Damien said nonchalantly, "I'm 'bout to leave. I'll be on my way in just a minute."
"Okay, get here fast."
"Yes, sir," Damien joked before he hung up. Ben sighed and paced around his empty house. After about ten minutes of waiting impatiently, he saw a charcoal grey sports car park in front of his house from the window. He made his way back to the telephone and started dialing Crybaby's number.
"Hey, you ready?" she asked upon answering the phone.
"Yeah, I'll be there soon. You can start heading outside."
Crybaby giggled because of the butterflies in her stomach. "Okay, I'll see you soon. Bye," she hung up in a rush to leave.
Ben put the phone down with a smile on his face and rushed to the front door. He shut it and locked it once he was outside. Damien got out the driver's side door of his car. "What's up, brother?" he said as he approached Ben.
"Long time, no see," Ben said as he walked across the driveway to greet his friend. They dapped each other up. Damien tossed Ben his car keys, "She's all yours for the weekend."
"Thanks a lot, man. I owe you."
"No problem. Just don't let me find anything fucked up," Damien said half seriously.
"I won't fuck anything up," Ben assured him. He got into the driver's seat and started the engine.
"Yeah, go get some ass!" Damien cheered, standing outside the open car door. Ben just glared at him for a moment before he shook his head and closed the door. He pulled the lever into Drive and started driving off.
"My man," Damien foolishly rooted for Ben once he was out of sight. He laughed to himself, then turned around and started walking back home.
Crybaby had been standing by the entrance of her neighborhood with a bag in her hand, which held her clothes and toiletries in it. She stood there for a few minutes until a car slowly stopped in front of her. She watched as the driver's tinted window rolled down. "Hey, baby," Ben said from inside the car.
Crybaby grinned, "Hi." She took a moment to study the sporty grey car.
"Come on, get in," Ben urged her. She walked around the car and let herself into the passenger's seat. He looked at her up and down after she closed the door, "You look good."
