Years and years ago there lived dragons, they were abundant. In rivers, forest, mountains, tundras, even deserts...
But as humans made their claim to lands they began to die out, being hunted for their scales or bones. It was believed that they had gone extinct until a baby dragon was found roaming the streets nearly thirteen years ago...
An egg sat under a tree, surrounded by branches in the middle of the forest while a large beast lay beside it. It laid there, chest heaving weakly as it's maw gripped the harpoon that rest in it's side.
"Humans..." It snarled, "foolish creatures... I too have a family to take care of, selfish creature." A sharp yank and the dragon dropped the harpoon with a loud roar of pain, a low growl following after though the growl came to a halt when the egg started to shake.
The dragon seemed to smile as he nudged the egg with his snout, watching as cracks began to brittle the top mercilessly. Soon enough it began to break apart, exposing the hatchling that was inside.
Stumbling out of the egg the hatchling let out a cry, whining for her parent. The adult let out a gentle coo as he began to groom the hatchling, his tongue brushing over her soft scales that had yet to harden.
"Welcome to the world my dear." He spoke, his heart feeling heavy against his chest, "Your mother would've been so happy to meet you, she was a shifter, just like you will be." The hatchling didn't answer, instead she let out a purr as she nuzzled against her father. Tiny legs stumbling as she crawled to her father's chest, huddling against his warmth in the safety of his claws and teeth.
The beast only grinned at his daughter, letting her rest as his head moved to lick the wound he received earlier.

The fletching ran around her father with happy and excited chirps, "Daddy! Daddy!"
"Yes darling?" The dragon cooed, his tail waving as he got up, stretching out like a cat.
"It's mommy's birthday today!" The fletching grinned, standing under her father's large figure.
"You're right Y/n, it is her birthday." The older smiled, his head bending to lick his daughter's head.
"Does that mean we can visit her today?" Y/n spoke gleefully, the black to purple scales on her head glistening slightly from the small lick she had received from her father.
"Of course," Her father smiled, "When I get back from hunting we will visit her." With those last words he took off, wings stretching out and flapping as he grew higher into the sky.
His daughter sat there, watching and smiling, hoping that one day she may too fly as free as him... but life is never that kind.
There she lay, curled up against the tree where she had hatched, the sun starting to set over the tree line as it lost it's battle to night, the moon taking its place in the cloudless night.
The fletching whimpered as the air turned cold, it's tiny body hardly holding enough flame to keep her warm.
She waited until the moon was high... deciding to search for her father. Tiny legs crawling through the forest as the rest of her body quaked with fear and cold, jumping at every noise.
It was until a branch snapped that she made a noise, squeaking out in fear as she attempted to run. Though as fate had it, her legs failed her and she ended up tripping.
Small steps came close as she flipped herself over, her scales bristling like a cats fur and her wings stretching out as she attempted to make herself look bigger and more intimidating. Her eyes shut tightly as she awaited death only to be greeted by gentle paws lifting her up.
