4 hours and 55 minutes left
"So why did you name the zombies?" Out of all things he could do, he decided to name the zombies. Doesn't he have anything else to do?
"Well I was bored, and I wanted to get the credit for naming the zombies."
"Why? There would be no point in naming them. No one would care it's pointless." He paused for a second.
"I don't know." I shake my head in disappointment. Alex came sprinting towards me with his eyes widened. Before I could even get a word in he started talking about some black zombie. It didn't make sense when I first heard it, but then again, I did see a zombie with abnormally large arms. Anything can happen.
"Alright, just help look for your mom, and don't go wandering off." I hear footsteps approach me from behind.Turning around I spotted her running towards us. She kept looking over her shoulder. She didn't have her bat with her. Did she lose it? With Alex's pipe gone and the bat gone, the only weapon left would be my gun. Behind her I spot a tall, lanky black figure chasing after her. Alex was right. I aim my gun at the figure; the figure took one look at me and started sprinting in the opposite direction. The zombie ran away? Weird. Why didn't it attack us? I thought the zombies were mindless creatures. What made that one so different? Sophie stopped almost immediately. Her breathing was wild, sweat dripped off her face. Her shirt had long, thin tears around her shoulders. I noticed the blood flowing from her shoulder down to her elbow. Without thinking I swiftly rushed over to her. "Are you okay? That zombie didn't hurt you right?" It took her awhile to form her response.
"It's just a scratch. I put some rubbing alcohol on it and a bandage. Don't worry about it." I take out my phone and look at the time. It read 8:05 pm. Do we even have enough time to make to the hospital? If we were in a car we might, but on foot? I don't think so.
"Alright we're leaving." Sophie nodded, but Alex looked like he didn't agree. "Alex what's wrong?"
"Don't you think that zombie was acting weird? All the zombies we saw didn't run away except that one. What if has some instinct telling it to track us down and hunt us? What if-"
"Alex, those zombies aren't that smart. Remember when you told me that they ignored you because of some noise."
"Yeah, but those zombies are obviously changing. Using loud noises might not work anymore." He's got a point.
"Fine. What do you think we should do." He was about to say something but he stopped himself. He bit his lip and looked to the side. "We have to leave if we want to go the hos-" I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my chest. I started coughing violently. My muscles started to have short bursts of pain. The coughing quickly got worse and worse. Alex backed off while Sophie rushed to my side. The coughing suddenly stopped; I felt massive amounts of pain in my chest. My muscles felt a little sore, but the feeling quickly went away. The pain in my chest quickly vanished. My body felt lighter than before. I didn't feel sick, I felt way better than I did before. I took a deep breath and found it easier to breathe; was it always this easy to breathe? I quickly stood up, I felt a little dizzy, but my dizziness quickly vanished. I felt Sophie tap me on the shoulder.
"Nate! Nate!" I looked over at her. Her eyes were wide with fear.
"I'm fine. I feel fine." The bag on my shoulder felt like nothing. before it was hard to move with the bag. It felt good not feeling the weight not slowing me down. "Alright let's go."
"Dad are you sure. You don't look very go-"
"I feel fine" Alex looked like he was about to say something else, but I ignored him and jogged to the entrance of the store. The zombies from earlier were nowhere to be seen. The only thing filling the streets were abandoned cars. I climbed over the bench with ease. I look around hoping nothing would jump out randomly. I wait for my family to come out before walking out into the city. In the middle of walking I had a strange urge to run or fight. It felt boring to just walk, I wanted to do anything else other than walking. I wanted to find a zombie and smash in its head. My skin felt itchy. Above me a helicopter flew over over me. I quickly look up and notice bright beams of light lighting up the sky.I saw the helicopter fly over the beams of light. It didn't take a genius to know that the helicopter was flying to the hospital.
