Be great, be good, be kind. Chloe <3

A week passed after the incident on New Year's Day and since Gideon touched Mia for the first time since he told her the truth. He cherished the moment, the feeling of her skin against his, and after a long year of keeping in the shadows, it was like experiencing her for the first time all over again. He was still watching her every day, at all times that he wasn't busy with hunting or dealing with the other ones like him. There weren't many, but still he wanted to make sure that the neighbourhoods remained safe and that they still remained hidden from the human world.

He watched Mia as she walked the icy road with what he supposed was a latte with hazelnut flavouring in it – her favourite – and how she struggled to move on the frozen pavement. Her free arm was going up and down with every unsure step and one time the coffee spilt from under the cap onto her gloved hand. He chuckled as he heard her curse under her breath. She stopped on the side of the sidewalk and took her gloves off then tucked them into the pockets of her coat. He always enjoyed the faces she made when she was frustrated and concentrating at the same time, and the bad sense of equilibrium served her poorly on the icy pavement.

She started moving again, and Gideon was ready to switch his position farther along the road when he heard a sound of the remaining rusty leaves rustle on a tree nearby. The sound couldn't have been made by a bird or the wind, as there wasn't any, but as he went to investigate, he found nothing. Not even a smell of somebody or something being there, which usually he was good at identifying. He frowned in confusion as he looked around once again, unsure at what could've possibly be the source of the sound, but unable to find any clue he brushed it off.

He returned to his previous occupation, his focused gaze following Mia as she walked to the building where she worked at. He didn't know what floor her office was, and neither did he want to know. She changed her job a little while ago; her previous boss considered her to be distracted and not very productive so he decided to fire her. Gideon blamed himself for that; he knew what preoccupied her mind so much that almost every night she would stay up and research until her eyes wouldn't stay open anymore. So he decided to leave the working space as her private place. She didn't change her apartment and he knew that she was very aware of that. And the stuff on the internet didn't help the situation at all.

Mia entered the warm building and shuddered at the temperature change. The weather was still terrible since it became colder a few days ago and it seemed like it was to stay that way for a few more. She didn't like the icy prickling on her face, but she did enjoy the snow. Though it rarely did snow to enjoy it.

She got to the floor that held her office and quickly removed her coat before sitting down on the chair. She twirled on it a couple of times, but stopped abruptly as a shudder went through her. She glanced around noting the empty room, but a feeling was nagging at the back of her mind. She felt like she was being watched. But she was up high in the building and no other windows besides the one overlooking the outside were in the room. After a minute of just sitting in alert mode, she finally relaxed and brushed the feeling away. There wasn't anybody watching her. Not here.

Gideon didn't watch her in the office, but he did listen the first few minutes as she made it in the room. He listened as she took off her heavy coat and it plopped on the small sofa, he waited for the usual twirl in the chair and the elevated heartbeat after that, but something changed. He prickled from the spot that he was hiding in, glancing up the glass building. Her heartbeat wasn't just elevated, but it was erratic, and he recognized the pattern. It would beat just the same and she was scared and alert.
