~ Chapter 13 ~

A/N: And here is some action for you! I was really excited to write this part, though I never did write fighting scenes. But I think it's decent enough. You'll be the judges of that though, so please vote and leave a comment, I really do appreciate it.

Gideon stood alert as he trailed his gaze around all the vampires, counting the number of his opponents. For a single frail human, there were a lot of them – seven were sent, ready to fight in order to get Mia.

"You're not getting the girl." He snarled; the warning in his voice was obvious. He stepped back when one of the vampires made one towards them, though as he glanced behind, he noticed a couple more vampires. Who the hell sends so many to get a single girl?

"It was an order. And we cannot disobey one coming from so high up." Mia noticed the subtle steps the vampires were making, advancing closer and closer to the two of them. She knew that Gideon was very powerful and strong, but even he had to admit that nine were too much to defeat by himself.

"Who gave you the order?"

"He wanted to remain anonymous until the girl was brought to him. And he told to bring her alive, though he never mentioned any restrictions concerning vampires who stood in the way," he hissed as he bent down into a battle stance. The rest of them followed suit, flashing out their fangs aggressively. Assessing his opponents once more, Gideon silently cursed under his breath. He didn't know if he wanted Mia to stay closely to him, or make a run for it while he attempted to keep them away. The only thing he was certain about is that there was going to be a fight.

"The girl stays with me. I don't care about your orders." He glanced back at the terrified girl behind him, who gripped his jacket with her small fist as if her life depended on it, before lifting his eyes to the advancing vampires. With a hasty decision, he lifted Mia into his arms, and flashed with her in the direction of the house. If he could, he'd be more content if she was safe inside the house while he dealt with the intruders, but they were quick to react and hard to avoid as they ran in front of him and with a grunt, both Gideon and Mia were shoved violently to the ground.

The vampires split then, two of them going to where Mia lay, and the rest crouching in front of Gideon. He stood up quickly, trying to get to Mia first, but a body slammed into him before he could get far. He grunted in pain, but he had to fight, even though he was outnumbered. Punching the guy on top of him, he managed to stand back up and avoid the fist that was coming in his direction. He swiftly grabbed the next one that headed for him, twisting him arm behind his back and tearing the head off his shoulders in the process. He was ready to tackle the one that was running towards him, but didn't anticipate the other that was coming from behind, only registering him when he was too close to dodge away from. A sharp thick branch pierced the side of his torso and he hissed in pain. Striking the two closest to him, he sent them tumbling down to the ground and then took out the stake from his side. Flashing to where the two vampires were holding the now thankfully conscious but struggling Mia, he tackled one from behind and ripped the head off. Mia starred petrified at the headless body next to her, too slow to react to anything else happening around her. Gideon tried to free her of the second guy, but was forced backwards by the one that was talking earlier. The grip on Mia's arm disappeared and she tumbled down, hitting forcefully her knees on the frozen soil, the hidden branches and rocks scrapping her skin painfully. She glanced down at the now stained snow, gasping silently at the biting pain on her limbs. Though she didn't have much time to spare as one of the vampires walked quickly over to her and she pushed herself back and away from him, only to be stopped by a tree. Cowering behind her risen arms, the blood ran freely down her palms, and abruptly all the fighting stopped.
