Be great, be good, be kind. Chloe <3

Gideon watched as the petite girl dropped like dead weight onto the ground, but thankfully he caught her just in time before she could hit her head. He picked her up and carried her to the sofa, sitting right beside her. He grabbed her hand and cradled it in his large palms, squeezing gently ever so often. It seemed like an eternity the 10-20 seconds it took for Mia to regain consciousness. He smiled a little as her eyes fluttered open and landed on him.

"What happened?" she sat up, tugging her hand out of Gideon's grasp as she moved.

"You passed out. Do you want a glass of water?"

"Umm... yeah, that would be great. Thank you." He stood up and was about to do it in his preferred speed, but then the idea dropped as it would have been bad to remind who Mia had in her house. He quickly found the glasses and filled one with water before bringing it over to her.

"I was bitten?" she took a sip, her hands slightly shaking. "By a vampire?"

"I'm afraid so."

"I don't remember anything," she said in frustration.

"Hey, don't blame yourself. Whoever it is, they made sure you don't remember anything."

"Are you trying to say that they compelled me?" Gideon smiled a little. He forgot that she has done her research.

"Exactly that."

"Wait, you don't have any idea of who it might have been? Are there a lot of vampires here?" the thought of others wandering around terrified her.

"There are a few, but we all make sure not to do anything like this. We keep each other in check."

"Oh." Mia leaned back against the sofa, her arms going around her torso. So there were more of them. How many did she pass by? Did any of them know about Gideon and her?

"But as to who might have bitten you, it's a mystery. It was just earlier this week that I even realized that there must be a stranger here."

"What will I do? I need to go to work, but I don't want to be bitten anymore. Just the thought of it turns my insides upside down."

"I know. I'm sorry."

"Why are you sorry? It wasn't you." But then she suddenly realized that it could have been him. He could have compelled her too and she wouldn't remember it. "Or was it?" the fear and shock in her voice was obvious. She struggled to move as far back as she could; she didn't know if she could trust him that it was somebody else. She instantly became very aware of the fact that he is in her house.

"No!" Gideon wanted to grab her hand to try and calm her, reassure her, but then he decided against it. He needed to use his words first. "Mia, I swear to you, I didn't do that to you. I could never..." the terrified look on her face didn't even start to disappear. She was afraid of him, that much he knew. "Mia, please, you have to believe me."

"I want to, Gideon, but... I can't." He didn't know what he could say to make her believe or trust him. Actually, he knew there was nothing he could have said that would have made her trust him. She was right, she didn't remember who did that to her, and in her mind it might as well be himself.

"That's... that's okay. I understand." He stood up from the sofa, "I better go. But please lock the doors." He barely noticed as Mia nodded her head, and then he walked to the balcony door. "Oh, and get some rose oil. Put it on yourself and around the apartment." And with that he disappeared into thin air.
