chapter 5: weapon
location: san antonio, texas, day 1

"San Antonio City Limit," Hoseok read off the road sign. "We're in Texas!"

"Texas!!" everybody cheered.

"So much for my reservation," Namjoon said. They stopped to get gas and Namjoon called to cancel on a pay phone. Meanwhile, Jimin took one of Namjoon's dollar bills and bought the entire van snacks.

"Chips for everybody!"

"I have no clue what Ecto Cooler is," Seokjin said as he looked at the carton, "but I'm about to find out."

"So I made us a new hotel reservation," Namjoon said, "but just for tonight. I guess we're rolling the dice on where we're staying."

"How about this?" Seokjin asked. "We go someplace, stay a couple of days, then go somewhere totally new. If we find our paradise in the middle of nowhere, then we can settle down. Otherwise, I'm okay with traveling a lot, as long as we are all together."

"I agree," Jimin said. "I think someday it is best to have a place we can call home. But until then, we are our home."

"It won't be so bad," Yoongi said, smiling at Namjoon.

He blushed. "Uh, I guess so."

"Then let's drive around and see what San Antonio has to offer!" Taehyung said with a smile.

"Let me get my map out first." Hoseok pulled out the map book. "Okay, boys. It says here in my map that San Antonio is the second biggest city in Texas. It says if you go here, you have to visit the Alamo. It's a historical site. The city is known for its industry and also holds a big rodeo every year." He put down his map. "To be honest, the size kind of reminds me of Daegu."

"Sweet!" Yoongi said from the back.

"I don't think Daegu has cowboys," Taehyung said with a laugh. "Or a rodeo."

"Texas is so hot all year that they can hold the rodeo anytime," Hoseok continued. "It's held in February. It usually is snowing then in New York!"

"In Korea, too." Seokjin looked out the window.

"Let's get settled and then get some more food," Namjoon said as he drove. "I agree that we can go see the Alamo tomorrow. And if we randomly end up back here in February, then we can go to the rodeo." Everybody cheered.

They drove up to the first hotel with a no vacancy sign, then made reservations for one night easily. "Do you think we need more protection than these locks?" Jungkook said as he stared at the hotel doors. Instead of going out for dinner, they had decided on ordering hamburgers, as it seemed like a very Texas thing to do.

"I don't think so," Jimin said. "Why?"

"Cowboys have guns, right?"

"Cowboys only have guns in all those old racist movies," Yoongi said, dragging the younger boys away from the door. "We are fine. We do not need weapons or extra locks. We already have a trippy van that decides where we go next."

"I mean," Jungkook said as he turned to Taehyung, "I suppose you could just punch the police officers again."

Taehyung laughed.

"No more getting drunk," Namjoon said. "Not until we have a permanent place to stay, unless you're of age. Seokjin, Yoongi, Hoseok, if you want one drink with a meal, that's fine. Otherwise I'll withhold my funds."

"Who died and made you boss?" Yoongi asked.

Namjoon flashed his many hundred dollar bills. "Benjamin Franklin, apparently. Now sleep up, kiddos. Tomorrow we go to the Alamo, and then, who knows where."
