chapter 29: dramatic
location: portland, oregon, day 2
Namjoon wasn't sure how he had lucked into two hotel rooms in Portland during the Rose Festival, but he was glad he had pulled it off.
The very next day was the Festival Queen Crowning and the Royal Parade, and it seemed like all of America had decided to visit Portland. Crowds upon crowds lined the streets outside the Memorial Coliseum. Some people were waving flags. Others were waving makeshift fans, trying to keep cool in the heat. Jungkook and Hoseok had grabbed fans from people passing them out, and they did their best to keep the other boys cool.
No such luck.
"Why did we come to this thing again?" Yoongi whined.
"Because it was something to do," Seokjin said.
"Right now it just seems like a lot of hoopla and not enough good food," Jungkook said. The festival itself was a ways away from where they were stationed, but the main highlight right now was the Queen's Coronation happening inside the Coliseum. After that would be when the parade happened. The sooner that happened, the better, because the boys were now locked in their places and wouldn't be able to move until the parade went through and the crowds were released.
"Let's play I Spy," Hosoek said, waving the fan so hard that Jungkook's hair went flying. "I spy with my little eye something that begins with the letter...S."
"Seokjin," Namjoon stated, staring straight ahead and not batting an eyelash.
Hoseok chucked his fan at Namjoon.
"Hey, I like that game," Taehyung said. "I spy with my little eye something that begins with..." He scanned the crowd for something to spy. Usually during this game, you would pick something nearby, describe it by the English letter it started with or its color, and the others would have to look around and guess what you saw. But there were so many people around that it was hard to pick just one thing.
He had settled on one of the crowdgoers' Hawaiian shirts when he saw something behind the man in question. It was a girl, running through the pathway that the police had created for people to leave the parade if they needed to. A girl in a blue dress, with long brown hair.
"Sara!" Taehyung broke apart from the group, leaving their designated parade zone and running down the street in the direction she had taken off in. They wouldn't be able to watch the parade, but Sara was more important -- and he still hadn't gotten an email from her. Her answers were important as well.
Thankfully the parade hadn't started yet, so when Taehyung reached the next intersection, it was open for crossing. The police were directing traffic across one of the streets, closing others for the parade that would start shortly. He beat Sara to the intersection, or at least he hoped he did. He stopped, and seconds later, she ran out, away from the crowd.
He called for her.
"Sara! Over here!"
She turned. And for a split second, Taehyung felt like Sara had been looking for him. There was something in her eyes, even so far away, that made him wonder: had she missed him like he had missed her?
Then, she ran out into the middle of the street. The police had blocked off the road, so Taehyung ran out to meet her, embracing her. He grabbed her, then spun her around, completely alone in the road but also being watched by probably ten thousand passersby.
"It's you! How?"
"I'm so glad I found you," Sara said, and then she tilted her head downward as Taehyung held onto her. "I'm so glad I found you." She kissed him, briefly, quickly, and then they were surrounded by Namjoon and Hoseok and the others.
