Then everything went black.
Mike's head was throbbing and his eyelids felt as heavy as lead. He wanted nothing but to drift away to a peaceful slumber. But then, all of a sudden, he remembered something. His eyes shot open in panic. The first thing he noticed were all those channels and monitors.Mike couldn't recognise where he was and his head still felt fuzzy.
Suddenly he heard a feminine voice,"Oh Michael, you're awake at last. Thank God you're alright. I was so so so worried about you. I thought we almost lost you." Concern sipped through the lady's voice.
Mike turned towards the source of the voice.
"Mom?"there beside Mike's bed, sat Karen tear stained face and puffy red eyes,"Where am I?"
"You're at the hospital, dear."
Suddenly Mike remembered about Will,"Mom, where is Will?"
"Huh?"Karen looked confused.
"Will Byers! He was there with me in the field before I lost consciousness. Where is he? Is he alright?"
Karen looked at her son, her heart shattered into a million pieces. Her eyes swelled up in tears as she tried to speak up.
"Mike, you had another attack."
"What?"Mike exclaimed.
"You had another severe attack of Schizophrenia. Don't you remember anything?"
"Remember what?"
Karen cupped her son's face and replied in a calm and soothing voice.
"Mike, William died three years ago."

Suddenly, the reality hit Mike like thousands of sharp whetted knife. He felt lifeless, paralyzed asif his world has stopped. What was lost long ago, what he could barely recall was now all coming back to him and crashing him down like a fallen kingdom.
His Mom noticed his condition. She felt so devastated and helpless on seeing him suffer like that and she couldn't take it anymore. She just could't stay there so she turned away.
"I think I should go Mike, I'll send Nancy in."
As Karen reached for the door, she heard her son's broken, lifeless call.
"Mom."
She turned back,"Yes sweety?"
"What day is today?"
As Mrs. Wheeler told the date, Mike realised it was the day after his birthday. Karen left and Mike was all alone in the room.
*start of flashback*
It was Mike's birthday three years ago. He was feeling so excited and he had it all planed out.
Crazy Together.
Mike's heart was dancing inside his chest as he paddled down the road. Will was seating behind him on the bicycle, the smaller boy's arms wrapped tightly around Mike's waist. Mike was taking Will to his most favourite place in the whole universe, the place he had never showed to anyone else before, the Quarry. He wanted to share his special place, which meant anything and everything to him, with Will. He would take Will to the cliff by the Quarry and then tell him everything. He would finally let go of all those feelings, all those emotions that were pent up for so many years. Mike's heart fluttered at the thought.
The raven haired boy was too excited to notice that he was biking at an uncontrollably high speed. When the truck hit the bike, all Mike remembered was being flung across the street and hitting a tree trunk. He heard his skull crack open. All he remembered was seeing red and the metallic taste of blood. Just before he lost his consciousness, Mike heard an earth shattering scream
Two days later, Mike woke up in the hospital. The doctor told him that they had a truck accident. Mike had a severe skull injury and was very lucky to have survived.
And Will.....
he was gone......
forever.
After a few weeks, Mike was diagnosed with Schizophrenia--- a disease where the patient have delusions, thinking disorder, often forgets certain memories and hallucinates so much that they believe it to be reality.
*end of flashback*
Mike's eyes swelled up with fresh tears. He grasped his hair with both his hands.
Agony.
A simple word and yet so much painful. This never ending agony was tearing Mike apart. Slowly but surely, one day this agony, this suffering will bring his end too. And he was only waiting for that day to come.
Then, Mike spotted it. On the medicine table beside his bed, there was a vase with a single wilted white daisy.
It could've been his sister Nancy, it could've been his Mom. But at that moment, Mike wanted to believe that it was Will...... all along.
Always.
Little did he know that his loved one was still alive with the beating of his heart.
"In another life
I will make you stay
so I don't have to say you were
the one that got away."
