I woke up at night hearing what sounded like knocking on glass. I thought it was coming from the window. Until I heard it again, coming from the mirror.
"Nope! Nope, stop it!" Christina exclaimed, pushing away from the table.
"What? What's wrong?" Emma asked, looking up from her phone.
"I asked for writing prompts. Not a freaky one."
"I was just reading what popped up. How is it that you can be so obsessed over vampires, one of the most terrifying creatures known to the myth world, and yet you can't handle a scary Pinterest writing prompt?"
"Don't judge me. That prompt was downright creepy."
"You better stop shooting down all the ideas I'm throwing at you. You need to pick a topic to write about."
"Yeah, I know. If I could just write about vampires, I'd be happy. But Miss Greene said that I have to choose a more 'realistic topic.'" She did quotations with her fingers.
Emma looked back down to her phone, smiling. If only they knew how real vampires are.
It's been a few days now, since Emma has started this double life of being a normal student during the day and then spending her nights with vampires.
"So...guess what? You remember that guy I was telling you about? Jaxon?" Christina asked.
"Mm-hm." Emma continued scrolling on Pinterest.
"Well...he and I are dating, now."
Emma lifted her eyes to her friend.
"No way. Blondie? Isn't he on the football team or something?"
"He likes basketball, actually. And when he's not doing basketball, he does track."
"I'm a bit surprised, actually."
"Yeah, turns out that we have a lot in common. Not to mention, he told me that my look is sexy."
"I'm happy for you."
"What about you? Any luck in the love department?" Christina folder her hand and leaned forward, batting her eyes dramatically.
"I told you, I'm not interested in love right now. I kind of have other things to worry about."
"Oh, come on, Emma! If you spend your days studying all the time, you're going to become a recluse. Get out, live a little."
"Hey, I'm okay with being a recluse. Besides, I'm around enough guys as it is."
"Wait, what?!"
Emma froze and her heart skipped a beat.
"Oh, shoot." She whispered.
"You're around other guys?! Who are they?! Who are you talking about?! Do I know them? Come on, spill it!"
Emma groaned.
"No, no. I don't want to get into it. And even if I wanted to, I don't know much about any of them to say anything."
"Girl, you have got to keep me in the loop about this kind of stuff. Don't leave me in the dark, okay? And I had no idea you were such a player."
"I'm not. It's really not anything like what you're thinking, I swear."
"Uh-huh. That's what they all say." Christina's smiled widened like she was the Cheshire Cat.
"No, I'm serious!" Emma protested.
Just then, the bell rang and Christina stood up.
"See you later, my minx of a friend." She pranced away.
