Once the first show ended, the light came back on, offering a break for people. Christina and Emma left to use the bathroom real quick, leaving Jaxon and Garrett at the table.
"So, what do you think of Jaxon?" Christina asked as she washed her hands.
"He seems really cool. He's very attentive to you, which is what I was looking for." Emma replied.
"I know, right?! He's so good to me."
"I am happy for you. Just make sure you're being careful."
"What do you mean?"
"I don't know Jaxon very well, so I don't have anything to really base my thoughts on him, but from what little I do know in just seeing him and watching him, he does seem very genuine. However, I don't want to see you get hurt by him."
"We're in a relationship, Emma. Getting hurt by one another is bound to happen. That's just how it works. He may be my first boyfriend, but I'm also his first girlfriend, according to what he's told me. And I believe him, because I've been crushing on him for awhile and I haven't ever seen him with another girl. I do see what you're saying, Emma. And I appreciate that you're concerned for me."
"You're my best friend, Christina. I look out for you and you look out for me. That's how it works, right?"
"Yes. So, what about you and Garrett? How is it you're not dating?"
"Like I said, Garrett's not looking for anyone to be in a relationship. Not romantically. Our relationship is...weird and circumstantial."
"Circumstantial?"
"Yes. We met by chance and he's kind of awkward when it comes to interacting with others. So, I'm taking things at his pace in helping him out. We're in the process of becoming friends. He's never really had a friend before."
"What about those other two you mentioned?"
"Asher and Cole? They've known each other since forever, but they don't really deem each other as friends, per se. It's weird. They're like roommates, but in a way, there isn't much of a chemistry between them. Something I think will change, given time."
"Okay. So, why's Garrett not interest in finding a girlfriend? Any particular reason? Or is that just him?"
"From what I have deducted, he's been pursued by many women who have been hoping to become his significant other, but for one I don't think the attraction is there, but also, his father has really been pushing him for finding someone to become his wife."
"So, what? His family is into the arranged marriage thing?"
"Yeah, kind of. Anyway, I don't question him. I respect his decision."
"Well, I hope his opinion about finding someone changes soon. Seeing you two together, you make a pretty cute couple."
"I honestly haven't put any thought in it, but I'll take your word for it."
Meanwhile, Jaxon and Garrett were waiting patiently, quiet. Until the awkward atmosphere became too much for Jaxon to handle.
"So...how come I've never seen you around before?" He finally asked, breaking the silence.
"I am not from around here. I live close, but not from this particular town."
"Are you a high school graduate or something?"
"I never attended school. Everything I learned, I learned from home."
"Homeschool, huh? I hear that's a bit rough. Well, kind of explains your lack of social skills."
