Chapter two: And Away We Go

Of course I did what any respectable 18 year old would do after having a boy who claimed to be an angel appear and disapear from her room, I went to sleep. Hey! Don't judge me! It was like 3:30 am. Too late for me. I was to hazy from sleep deprivation to realize  I should've to call the cops or follow some silly procedure. So, I slept.

And was then promptly awoken. Turns out angel boy, wasn't so crazy after all. I was startled awake by the sound of a knock on my door, and Cass's voice yelling at me to unlock the door and  to hurry up getting ready.  So angel boy told me an hour and he kept his word.

Begrudgingly I fought my way out of my warm, cozy blankets to go open this door. Right as my hand touched the knob I remembered my mistake from before. While I think my underwear is flattering, I already gave angel boy too much of a show. I told Cass to give me a minute and tossed on a pair of ripped up jeans,  my red tank top and leather jacket from before, and finally my converse.

This time when I went to open the door I paused and was out of excuses to not open the door. This seemed like a great idea an hour ago. Could I really leave behind my life with a guy I don't even know? And even worse drag my best friend into matters too? I could feel my chest getting tight and hear myself whimper as I hyperventilated.  One minute I was having a panic attack, and largely incoherent and the next I was in the arms of angel boy as he sang a song in a language I didn't understand. When I looked into Nico's eyes I could've sworn I heard a soft I love you but I know his mouth didn't move, so I chalked it up to post panic attack haze.

Suddenly, I was all too aware of my body pressed against angel boy's and quickly stepped away.  I knew I was better off with the serial killer.

"I'm sorry, what?" Nico said completely bewildered as Cass burst out laughing. Oops must've said that last part aloud. I rolled my eyes and stalked out of my room to the kitchen downstairs. Cass and angel boy found me with a half empty container of cookies in front of me. Cass scowled but didn't say anything, angel boy on the other hand didn't know better.

"What are you doing? Surely there is more nutritious food, you are going to need your strength." Angel boy even had the audacity to punctuate this statement by trying to take the container away. I dropped, kicked out, and continued eating my cookie as angel boy sat on the floor with a confused look on his face.

"Rule number one: never touch her food. Rule number two: never try to make her eat healthy." Cass said in her teacher voice. We grew up together and Cass knew how picky of a eater I am. If I'm not in the mood, I won't eat it. More often than not I'm not in the mood for "real" food. Oh well. I'm not dead yet.  Cass looked up her blonde curls bouncing and smiled. While she might try to act motherly and get mad about what I eat, at the end of the day she loves me and I her. She's the only friend I have ever needed.

"Okay" Angel boy slowly said as he dusted himself off. "Can we get going?"

"I still don't know where we are going!" I pointed out.

"I can tell you once we are there" With that cryptic thought, angel boy grabbed me and Cass by the hand. I think I heard him say close your eyes.  Closing my eyes did nothing to help against the blinding white light that surrounded us. It felt like forever but really was probably only a few seconds. Once I finally blinked enough so my vision cleared, I was able to take in my surroundings.

We were in a field. Looking up, one half of the sky was night, with stars and a moon. The other half was clearly day, there was a sun and clouds. Where the two halves met the sky was the pink and purple collage of a sunset, or sunrise. The edges of our field were just as mismatched as the sky. In front of me I could see a beach in the distance, to my left I saw snow and what looked like mountains, behind me there was a jungle with animal noises being emitted, to my right  I couldn't see a change in landscape. This side looked like the field continued forever. Sitting in the distance I could make out a large house, well mansion.  Sitting in front of the house was a puking Cass.

"Rough flight?" I asked as I kneeled to hold her hair. Even while I was witnessing mini hot dogs for the second time,  she still managed to give me the Cass glare.  "Where's Nico?" I asked looking around. One minute he wasn't there, and the next he was. I as a result said some words that made Cass mad at me. Nico didn't even looked phased. He merely frowned and said "welcome to Purgatory".
