I was all giddy and nervous. I'm not sure if I'd go for a nice restaurant because normally the food is overpriced and tastes like nothing and the complementary water tastes like dirt.
At the table, I sat in between Indra and Brian. Mom and Indra were on the outside of the table.
Indra and I held hands beneath the table. He was a bit nervous too. But, I'm here for him. Our hands bounced as Indra tapped his leg.
The restaurant was dimly lit and had small fake candles on the middle of the table.
I looked at my parents. Mom looks like she's here to enjoy this dinner, ask her questions and determine if Indra is worthy of her son. But Brian, he looks like he's stewing, cooking something up.
My professional opinion tells me Indra won't make it through this dinner in one piece.
Mom was looking at her menu, Brian folded his hands on the table and stared ahead intently, and Indra turned his head to avoid Brian's eyes. Who's gonna start a conversation?
I want it to be Brian because I want to know what he'll say.
"Ooh, this scampi looks good." Mom stated.
I looked at Brian, he looked at me, then I pointed to Indra with my eye. Brian hunched his shoulders and turned his head to Indra.
"So Indra," Indra flinched and looked at Brian. Oh god, what's he gonna say? Why did I sic him on my boyfriend? Abort! Abort!
"Luc told us you went back home to Romania. What did you do there?" He asked.
Indra tilted his head, "what do you mean?"
"Were you with family? Aunts? Uncles? Siblings?" Brian asked. Does Indra have family remaining? I never asked.
"No," Indra shook his head. "There's no family."
"Aw. What happened to them?" Mom joined the conversation.
"My parents didn't have any siblings, and I was the only child." Indra explained.
"Oh, I see." Mom said. Of course, she seemed to take pity on him. Brian, on the other hand, just moved on to his next question.
"Do you plan on abandoning Luc again anytime soon?" He asked.
"No." Indra answered as soon as Brian finished his sentence.
"We know Luc is-" Brian started and looked at me. I smiled at him. "Accident-prone. If he ended up in the hospital again would you stay with him or leave him?"
"Brian." Mom called scoldingly.
"I'd stay."
"How can you promise that?"
"Well, I mean, he came for dinner." I cut in.
"This is something entirely different, Luc." Brian said.
Indra looked to the side in thought. "I don't like leaving Luc's side. So I'd stay with him."
"Aw." I cooed with heart-eyes.
"Don't get suckered in, Luc." Brian scolded me.
"Aw." I pouted.
"You want actions rather than my words..." Indra started. "But with all due respect, I can't do much at this dinner table. Dr. Benson."
"Hm," Brian hummed. He nodded his head in acceptance. "Okay."
Brian then held up a finger and opened his mouth to speak.
"Brian, relax and look at your menu." Mom ordered. Brian stood down and did what she said.
I snickered and playfully nudged my shoulder into Indra's arm.
