The Hybrid Hero (Book One Edited Version)

Chapter 1 Daily Flight

I wanted to clear some things up. Yuki was born in the U.S but his mom is Japanese so he has a Japanese name. He speaks English and Japanese. Since they are now in Japan he will be speaking Japanese, when he speaks in English it will be in bold like this. The story will be told from Yuki's Pov. Ok into the story we go.

Yuki's dream

Me, my mom and my dad are surrounded by a bunch of men in suits. We race for the portal when pow. My dad is dead and I fall to my knees screaming.

End of dream

"DAD!" I wake up my clothes drenched in sweat and my eyes watery from crying. I look at my alarm clock and see its 4:30 in the morning. Even after five years, I am still having that nightmare. If only I was strong enough I could have done something. Unable to go back to sleep I change into my sweat pants and a red tank top, bring out my wings and go on my daily flight. I know this using my wings in public is illegal without a provisional license, but I don't really care. I enjoy my morning flights cause it gives me time to strengthen my wings and it gives me time to think.

I started to get tired so I land on the roof of a tall building overlooking Mount Fuji. As I land I can see the sun was rising. The skies filled with its red and orange colors causing Mount Fuji's snow to sparkle, no wonder Japan was called the land of the rising sun. I sit there taking in the view thinking about how my life has transpired over the last five years. After we made it threw the portal we were contacted by a friend of my dads and they helped us get a place of our own. My mom decided to home school me because she was afraid something bad would happen. I was ok with it because I was afraid of getting bullied again. When we got here I learned about heroes and how they use their quirks to save people. I was shocked because in America heroes did not exist let alone have a career where you can save people.

I am so happy I no longer have to hide anymore. I look at my phone to see it was 8:00 I guess time really does fly when I am flying. I laugh at my own joke and spread my wings about to take off when a man with red feather wings lands next to me. I recognize him as the number two hero Hawks.

     "Hey, kid. you should not be out here using your quirk without a license. How old are you?"

I was stark struck because Hawks were my favorite hero, I know most people favor Endeavor and don't get me wrong he is amazing I just find him a little too flashy. I finally snap out of thoughts answering Mr. Hawks.

     "I-I am fi-fif-teen" I stutter out. When I get nervous I either twitch or stutter. "I am so sor-ry Mr. Hawks sir. I like to do a morning flight every day to strengthen my wings." He looks at me as if he understands.

     "I get it, kid, I did the same thing when I was your age. What is your name and quirk? You do not have to answer if you don't want I am just curious."

     "My name is Yuki Chikara and my quirk is hybrid. I have all the attributes of both a vampire and a werewolf." He looked impressed.

     "Well I should go kid and you should go home. Have a good day, maybe I'll see you around sometime Yuki Chikara." He spread his wings and was off.

OMG, I just met the number two hero Hawks! I look at my phone and realize that I need to get home so I jump into the air and spread wings and fly home. I get home and walk into our house to see my mother sitting at the reading the newspaper while drinking some blood.

     "Hey, mom I'm home." I go over to her and give her a hug.

     "How many times have I told you not to have your wings out in the house?"

     "Oh sorry, mom I forgot." I quickly retract my wings and as I walk off my mother calls me again.

     "Yuki remember you have to meet up at the track field at U.A to get your uniform."

     "Yea mom I remember thank you." I almost forgot, but of course, I was not going to tell her that. U.A high was the most prestigious school for aspiring heroes and getting in was really hard. Well for normal students anyway. If you can get in threw recommendation then you didn't have to take the normal entrance exam like the other kids. There were three ways to get in.  You either have a really strong quirk, parents were or is a current top-ranked hero or you have a lot of money, and even before all that is factored you have to take a written test. If you get a passing score then you and the other recommended students take a private exam.

My mom was not a ranked hero nor do we have enough money to buy me into the school, so it was really important for me to get a high score. I could get in cause I have a strong quirk, but I didn't want to show off my abilities to others yet cause I am shy. To my surprise when my test results came it a couple of days ago I had scored so high that I was accepted immediately no practical exam needed. I get out of the shower and realize that I am late to get my uniform. I go to the door to a note left from my mom telling me she went to get it for me cause she knew I would be late. Oh well, time to enjoy my day before school tomorrow.

Time skip to dinner time hours later

Me and my mom were at the table drinking our blood bags. I felt a little uneasy and I guess my mother picked up on that.

     "Yuki my little half-blood prince what's wrong?"

I look at her and give her a smile and say "Nothing mom I'm excited about tomorrow," but I could tell right away she did not believe me.

     "Yu, I was born 2000 years ago not yesterday. I know when something is the matter with you. Besides, whenever something is bothering you your wolf ears fold down." Man, that was always my tell, darn you wolf ears.

     "Mom I am worried that I will get bullied again, what if they think I am a freak or what if they point at my ears or pull my tail?" In America, the kids would always pull my tail and try to cut it off plus they would pull at my wolf ears. That is why even now when in public I tuck my tail on my pants and wear a beanie over my ears.

     "Yuki we are in Japan now. This will be a new school with new people, besides I am sure there will be kids who also have tails. If anything they will think you are cool for being a hybrid. Even in a country with less restrictive laws hybrids are a rarety."

I look at her and tell her to thank you and go to my room to lie down. Tomorrow is my first day at U.A.
