Eikko and Me- A Selection Story

Chapter 8

Today is the day of the Halloween Ball. Tomorrow is Friday, which means there will be another report. I am so excited to tell the country our big news.  The Halloween ball starts in two hours from now, and I still need to get ready. Mom and Dad came up with the idea that there should be a theme for the ball this year. We decided to do a Disney theme. I helped by saying old Disney movies. It would be fun to dress up as something that is not as modern and up to date.  I was waiting for Iva to come up with my costume. Eikko and I are being Lilo and Stitch. Lilo is a Hawaiian girl from Hawaii, and Stitch is an Alien from outer space. I then heard the door open, and I saw that Iva was her.

"Your majesty, I have your costume for you."

"Thanks, Iva. You know you don't have to call me your majesty. You are my maid, and I want you to feel comfortable. I want to be good friends." She nods, and I hug her. She is taken a bit off guard but hugs me back.

I put the costume on, and am amazed. The dress is a beautiful red with white Hawaiian leaves printed on it with a little leather belt. It flares out so it is knee-length. There is a palm tree leaf headband crown with matching bracelets for each hand.  It is paired with brown leather strappy sandals. I smiled at Iva's work in the mirror. I suddenly hear a knock on the door. I go to open the door and peek my head out to see Mom.

"Can I come in?" I give a look to show I am questioning my options, and she laughs at me. I nod.

"You look beautiful Eady! I love your idea. Do you remember watching Lilo and Stitch when you were little? It was one of your favorites! We watched it many times. Ahren was always annoyed that we watched it, but your Dad and I let you watch it many times." I never recall watching it before. I can't believe it used to be one of my favorite movies.

"Thanks, Mom, and no I do not recall watching it."

"Maybe we can watch it again sometime soon."

"I like that idea Mom." She smiles at me, and I hug her.

"Eady, just so you know, your dad and I will win. We have won this for about twenty years." I just laugh, and Mom winks. I know she is just playing with me.

"I need to go get ready Eady. I love you." Then she bends down to my stomach. "I love you too  my little grandbaby." I just laugh and watch her walk out with a smile on her face. I wave goodbye, and she blows me a kiss back and politely waves. I sit down and Iva starts to do my hair and makeup. It looks beautiful. I start to feel like a real Hawaiian princess. But I am more than a princess. I am the queen of a huge country. 

All of a sudden, I hear a knock at the door. I look over wondering who is here now. 

"Come in." I look at the door to see my husband. I smile at him and dismiss Iva. He walks up to me with a garment bag and in it I presume is his costume. He looks at me and smiles.

"You look beautiful my Lilo." I laugh at being called my character's name. He just smiles and hands me his garment bag. I look inside and burst out laughing. Eikko starts laughing as well. I know it was not very royalty like, but the costume was hilarious. It was a big blue and fuzzy costume with big ears. I took some deep breaths to calm down. Eikko walks over to the bathroom to get changed into his costume. A few minutes later he came out, and I can't help but laugh. He opens his arms, and I run up to him and hug him.

I look up at him, "You are so soft and fuzzy! I love you." He kisses my forehead and I smile up at him.

"Well, thank you, my beautiful Queen." I laugh, and we stay in that position until we are called down to make an entrance at the party. 

A guard calls us down, and we head towards the back entrance of the great room. The back entrance leads to a small stage where Eikko and I make our entrance. We asked Gavril if we could not record our announcements because we want to tell our friends and the rest of our family about the baby before the rest of the world. The report is tomorrow, so they will find out then. Eikko quickly bends down to kiss my stomach, and talk to the baby for a quick second. I smile because I know he is going to be an amazing father to our child. Gavril walks back, waiting to see if we were ready. I nodded, and he bowed before heading back out to the ball. I then hear Gavril pick up the microphone and gets everybody's attention.

"Welcome to the annual Halloween Ball. I am proud to announce our Prince Consort and Queen of Illea, Queen Eadlyn, and Prince Consort Eikko!" We hear clapping as we walk out, arms linked. I start to hear laughter all around the room, most likely because of our costumes. Gavril hands me the microphone and I start by welcoming the guests. Eikko stands next to me, and when I finish all of the other announcements, Eikko and I look at each other. We are ready to let our friends know.

"Prince Consort Eikko and I have some news to share. We are sharing it with the country tomorrow on the report, but we want to let all of our friends and family know now. We are asking you all to keep this to yourselves until tomorrow " I take a deep breath. Eikko wraps his arm around my shoulder. "We want to announce that I am pregnant with the heir to the throne!" The applause filled the room as we stood on the stage. Gavril comes back up and claps for us.

"Congratulations! The country is not going to be ready for this tomorrow!" We all laugh, and we are left to go hang with our guests. Eikko and I go over to my parents, and I see their costumes. They are dressed as Prince Ariel and Prince Erik from The Little Mermaid. Mom looks amazing. Ariel and Mom both have red hair, so it is perfect. Mom hugs me along with Dad. I look over and see Camille and Ahren. They are dressed as Belle and the Beast. I just want to laugh. Ahren is definitely a beast at heart after growing up with him as my twin, I know that. Beauty and the Beast takes place in France, so it is perfect since they live there. We all enjoy the party and dance until it is time for the costume awards.

Gavril goes up to the stage to announce the awards. I don't really notice the other awards until I see that Aunt May has won an award. She was dressed as Moana, who is also a Hawaiian princess. She won the best individual costume award. Next is the best couples costume award. I do not really know who is going to win.

"The winner for the best couples costume is..." I inhale a breath as he is about to announce the award. "...Our retired King and Queen, Maxon and America Schreave as Princess Ariel and Prince Erik!" I am shocked. I thought this was my chance! I clap and Mom gives me a little look. I can not believe that she won when it was finally my chance. I just laugh it off.

There is always next year. I know it.
